CPP demands release of arrested Moros
January 11, 2005

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) today called for the immediate release of five Moro men arrested with 11 others on January 7 in Manila, saying they are "victims of the Arroyo government and Philippine National Police (PNP) in a desperate publicity stunt."

CPP spokesman Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal said today that "No one is buying the PNP story that the men they arrested are terrorists who planned to bomb the Quiapo religious procession last Sunday."

Rosal condemned the Arroyo regime for "victimizing the Moro people." He said, the Arroyo regime is "hyping-up the terror-scare in a desperate publicity stunt to frighten the people."

"Recall that this is not the first time that the basic civil rights of the Moro people have been trampled upon by the Arroyo government in its so-called anti-terror drive," Rosal pointed out.

"Using the PNP, the Arroyo regime has been terrorizing Moro communities in Metro Manila," Rosal said. "We enjoin the Moro people to stand up to defend their rights and dignity."

"We fully sympathize with the Moro communities in Manila, especially the families of those who were rounded up by the PNP," Rosal said.

Marocs Lite, eh? Pro-American dictatorships have collapsed all throughout the third world only to be replaced by pro-American bourgoisse "democracies" that might as well be out and out dictatorships by the way they function.

Interesting.. I've heard that the CPP was allied or at least had some kind of non-aggression agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, probably from the BBC. Since you seem to be following the CPP/NPA led revolution there more closely than I am, I was wondering if you knew whether this was true and if so, what exactly the latter's politics are, roughly. More importantly, what exactly is the Moro community made up of? Is it an oppressed nationality, like a distinct ethnic group, or a religious minority or what? I've read a little about the PW on the website they operate but I'm interested in learning more.

I don't really know much about the Moros, but I will say, you are correct, the CPP/NPA collaborates with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front. It's mentioned in the Mindanao Commission statement released a few weeks ago on the anniversary of the founding of the CPP, available here:

(The link to the same article posted on the PRWC seems to be fucked up at the moment, so that's why I'm giving the above link. Although, I put the PRWC link at the bottom of that page, so you can check it later, when it might be working again.)

Moro is the Tagalog word for muslim. The movement is based in areas like Mindanao, the Sulu Archipelago, Palawan, Basilan and the neighbouring islands.
