I've been getting a lot of questions about my book from various people, so I'll address some of that here now. I've stuck this in the theory thread because it IS a theoretical piece of writing.

The book is titled Revolutionary Method, subtitled Revolution and Communism in the US and Other Advanced Capitalist Countries

The book will be out as a first edition sometime around late April (I hope). I suspect it will be about 150 pages, possibly more, but still possibly less.

The book is designed to focus on revolution in advanced capitalist countries and uses the US to exemplify it's case. It focuses primarily on post-revolutionary society (Socialism), but also has sections devoted to making revolution itself and how I think the left needs to go about making revolution a reality in such places.

Much of the work is founded on Marx's ideas using quotes and pieces of his writing to back up the general statements made, to which I then focus more in depth, supplying the reasoning behind what I'm saying. It will cover everything from the philosophical to the economic basis for Communism and is designed to be read by people who already understand Marxism to some degree. The hope is that the book will lay down practical groundwork for the leftist movement in moving countries like the US towards revolution and eventually communist society.

This sounds very exciting, if it all comes about I hope you will have a unloadable version for us, here on the revolutionary-left.

Ah, here we go!!! Very interesting NovelGentry. I'll be on the look-out for this book. I hope everything goes smoothly. Though another comrade informed me of the title already, this short description is helpful. Definitely want a copy of this book. ;)

any concerns about the reaction of the establishment?

They've arrested and prsecuted high school kids under the patriot act for less threatening gestures. I'd suggest publishing under a pseudonym, at the very least.

Sounds great! Do you have any works already out there or is this your first?

It's probably not going to be "Published" per se, it will be available free for download, but it is written under a Pseudonym anyway, not that it's really THAT comforting of a gesture.

The book will be released in PDF form with a creative commons license which allows for the redistribution of the work. PDF is one of the most widely accessible document types and thus should be able to be accessed by a large majority of users as opposed to word which would require you to have the Microsoft product. Also with PDF, the same format is retained NO MATTER WHAT. That is to say, if you do not have the same fonts on your system that I'm using in the document, it won't matter, everything will look the same both on screen and if it's printed.

HTML is good, furthermore it'd be good for linking between footnotes, for example, you create a link in the superscripted number to link to an anchor at the bottom of the page where the proper footnote is. HOWEVER, what HTML is very poor for is printing. This book is designed very much around the possibility of making printable copies for distribution. Something like PDF is the BEST means to do this while ensuring the book stays in it's proper format, etc.

At what will probably become over 100 pages of material it will certainly be a monster to print, but I'd like to do several copies myself and try and get them out there in the real world, not just virtually. PDF makes it the best of both worlds, because people will be able to access it online and see it exactly as they would see a printed copy, but it also makes that printed copy easy and well formed.

to further distribute the book--perhaps to make it available to those who have little access to the internet--you could use an on-demand service such as lulu (free) (http://www.lulu.com). I've used it before, and the printing/binding is decent. A social network of some sort could be set up to conveniently leave such materials out in the open where someone might find it.. just a thought. It works for other books.

That'll be great, but a book even without quotes would even be better. Have your own theories.

I'm not sure if you've ever taken any serious writing courses, but expousing many of the ideas in the book as my own would be plaigerism. You may not agree Marx knew it all, but that doesn't change the fact a lot of what was said clearly defines the points I'm putting across. I share much of Marx's ideas, not because they're Marx's, very simply because they made sense. If they didn't, I wouldn't consider myself Marxist.
