Anyone read much Chekhov? If not, I suggest it. Most especially, a short story he wrote called gooseberries.. which you can read here:

The little man tapping on the window is great.

How did he have time to write books? I mean, in between his duties on the bridge and such.

Presumably he became an author after he returned from his five year voyage, yes?

I'm so happy that I can read books by Chekhov in Russian. They all are exceptional!!!
Have you read Chamber №6? It's my favourite.

I'm reading the cherry orchard now. So far so good.

My goal is to be able to read tolstoy in its natural tongue. I'm not off to a very good start.

What about his duties as a doctor? He seemed to write a lot, regardless of duties. Of course.. they really had little else to do in russia at the time.

I read (and saw) Three Sisters as part of my Theatre Studies AS. It's the kind of play that could either be incredibly moving or deeply monotonous depending on how it's handled. Though the underlying themes of time and the general futility of existance are top quality...

ahh, the general futility of existence. It's beautiful.
