Should debt be cancelled? What more should governments do? How will the affected countries rebuild communities, livelihoods and economies?
What do you guys/girls think?
I'll give my views after a few responses!

Debts should be completely cancelled. Places like Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Thailand rely heavily on tourism, and they may need years just to re-build their countries.

Debts should be suspended indefinitely, if not cancelled altogether. The rich countries of the West could also help by providing additional security measures, such as tidal sensors etc to help encourage tourists back. In addition, i think the Asian countries should consider creating some sort of bunkers/refuges in case of future waves, where people can be evacuated to at short notice. Some sort of speaker systems on beaches would also be good to encourage tourists back.

I don't think the Capitalists will cancel the debt. But I really think that they should provide more help than the meager ones they are providing right now.

19 years in prison is really not fair, But then again, they are accused of multiple charges

If you knew how the IMF deals toughly with Indonesia, then you would know that there is meager chance that they will cancel out any debts. Afterall, capitalists are capitalists! IMF is just a cappie club (CC)
Donations are flooding in from all directions, but the government of the related countries are not doing well. Food are hoarded in inventories for days and they are rotting; Military's corruption is also a problem.

There is also the problem of civil wars. Many of the regions hit by this earthquake have been in civil war for decades, with the inevitable oppression of the people by the army in rebel strongholds. There is no way that the governments of the countries involved will bother to help these regions once the international spotlight is off them in a few months time.
Concerning debt, it shouldn't be there in the first place. Capitailist countries shouldn't be so greedy that they demand money given to poverty-stricken countries be repayed at a profit to them. They should either give it away or not bother at all.
