Just out of interest whosgoing to the Marxism conference this week held by the SWP. I am going out for soo, just wondering if anyone else would be there.

What are the SWP like were you live. They're wankers over here. Very authoritarian and they always jump on the bandwagon for other people's work.

They seem to appear at any demo being held over here selling their papers, which IMHO are rip-offs.

I wouldnt know anyhow, i dont work. I hadnt or havent heard of an SWP around here. OR do you have to work in order to go to those meetings?

the newspaper is good,ok at like 80p a copy with only 17 pages or so but how the hell can they affored to do the extensive journalism required?Who pays for the trips to Palestine and Colombia.Think you were harsh.

SWP from my location don't seem to do nothibng wrong.We fly post,arrnage proudctive meetings,help arrange concerts,do anti nazing leafting showing our strong partnership with the anti-Nazi league.OK sometimes i seen some members using wrong tatics to get people to join members but that was very rare.It's a good party.You should read Tony Cliff,an SWP man who was a great talker and writer.

Maybe you'd like to join the Socialist Alliance who couldn't spell socialist right on a wall telling people to vote for them.Or maybe those people at Revolution who just get teenagers to go marching through town attacking debenhams and other clothes shops and make for very bad public viewing.I think the SWP is a very good party,with it's flaws but are still very good.

How do you get a 17-page newspaper? I've heard of 2-page, 4-page, 8-page, 12-page 16-page and so forth, but never 17.

Most SWP papers I've seen are 8 pages, and are made up of nothing more spectacular.

Nothing spectacular?Every thing how big or small attacking the government and such is spectacular and that stands up for workers no matter how big or small i'd say is spectacular.I'd like to see how pages the Sun and the Daily mirror could have if they excluded sport and scandal pages.

You should spend your time attacking Capitalism and not attacking the contents of a socialist party's newspaper,and damn you for wasting my time to defend it.

Also there are 16 pages.I guess the 8 pages missing in most of the copies you get or got were...?

The reason I don't like the SWP is that, at least in my area, it is mostly made up of university students who become the capitalists.

My experience of the SWP is varied, not all bad some of the membership is better than the leadership but they do tend to hijack things for recruitment purposes. I have had a history of sectarian bother with some of them and they are notoriously narrow minded on anything that goes beyond trade union struggle or anti -imperialist struggle(excepting Ireland)
Lately, in Scotland,they joined the SSP. They had previously been arguing against seperationism. I really dont know whats going on with them but obviously things are changing.

From my experience of the SWP,I wouldn't say they were bad at all,and very few members of my local group(at the time)were students.As Rev.Spirit says,they did a hell of a lot of organising,and supported many struggles whilst no other group was doing much at all.OK,sometimes it reminded me of"The Life of Brian",and some of the members were hostile to having Militant members or anarchists at the meetings,but it's better to have an SWP that is attempting to promote marxism than nothing at all.

do you think 16 pages newspapers is so funny? then you must look at "zo haderekh("this is the way", the newspaper of the israeli communist party)". from 2,000 there newspaper is only on the internet, there are only four articles in latest newspaper(if you don't include their report on their 24 conference, but most of the time they have 6 articles in the good case. if you go to: http://www.maki.org.il/body_index.html , you will find one article in english), their loosing votes, their articles are always the same(condemning bush or sharon), and the party have troubles financing herself.
