Once you have the first RATM album you have them all, they lost all origionality, as they just copied the exact same formula in all their following albums.

I love Rage. You have to get to know their music to be able to discern the differences in songs. A lot of other bands are the same way, if you're not completely familiar with them they all sounds alike. Their songs carry an awesome message in an awesome way.

Yeah I like them. I am watching their last performance while I type this. I know they were on the socialist side, but what kind? Were they Communists they were too vage on their beliefs

Its the same type of music in all of their albums, but all three (Renegades doesn't count as its just a covers album) are quite different from each other. Evil Empire is especially different.
Rage fucking rock!

They have definitely claimed to be communists. Tom Morello is a well-read Maoist (I'll forgive him for that because of his cool guitar work), but I'm not too sure about the rest of them. ZDLR seems a but flimsy and un-read in his beliefs to me...

I think they're cool but I'm not exactly rushing out to buy an album of theirs...Although I do like that video directed by Michael Moore a LOT.

Actually I think they're anarcho-communists, especially since on their website under the "Readings" section there is the infamous What is Communist Anarchism by Alexander Berkman. And the constant display of red and black might say something as well. I could be wrong tho.

Their reading list also has bourgeois authors on it......

From a musical point of veiw, they own. Tom is one of the modern day guitar masters of effects, Tim is one of the only bass players around the dears to go past the 5th fret and Brads fills and licks were amazingly origanal. combined with Zachs rapping verses and tridionanl hard-hitting rock couroes and you have one of the best bands af the 1990's. Then there was the message, they got me into the left and im sure afew others aswell. How can you not like'em.

They have state and revolution by Lenin aswell...
I think that Tim and Zack are anarchists, I don't know about Brad though.

'Who Wants to be Filthy Fucking Rich.'
Its in Sleep Now in the Fire - the one where they and Michael Moore manage to get the Wall Street Stock Exchange closed during the middle of the trading day. Result! :P

I know, but I hate when people try to base their politics on their proposed reading lists. People see the revolutionary authors but browse over the bourgeois ones.

You might be assuming that you can't learn anything from "bourgeios" authors and I think that's mistaken. After all, where would we be today if Marx hadn't read Hegel and Adam Smith, who were both pretty reactionery.

Audioslave are so much better than Rage, their songs are actually tuneful and have at least a tad of origionality. Gasoline is a better song than any song released by Rage.

I'm not saying that at all, I'm just saying that you can't judge someone's politics on the basis of their reading list. I could recommend a pamphlet by Kropotkin but that doesn't make me an anarchist.

RATM was and is still my favourite band, in a musically barren (barring some awesome bands) landscape, they came out on top. Audioslave, while great, just doesn't have that ferocious feeling and message. BRING BACK ZACK!

Audioslave is better than Rage? What are you smoking!? RATM is great, their my favorite band. And their politics? I'm pretty sure Zack is an anarchist as well as Tim. I'm also pretty sure that Tom is a marxist. And Brad has said that he is not a radical and is in it for the music, but if I had to lable him, He'd just be a socialist. Overall great band. I hope Zack comes back. :D

I really like what tom morello is doing to spread the message, in and out of music.

audio slave sounds like sound garden
and zdlr has stood trial at the world court against the US or something similar (not sure what) and seeing how he wrote the songs yeah, he's read up on politics. Tom and Zack are the politically motivated individuals in the band, the other two were there as old high school friends and for the music. www.zdlr.net (http://www.zdlr.net) if it hasn't been posted here before. Amazing live. So much energy. Audio slave is burned out and meaningless and will never match ratm in any way. Ever.
