Can Iraq survive without US occupation?

If occupation forces do withdraw, will Iraq descend into chaos?

Is withdrawal of coalition forces the best thing for Iraq?

Discuss, please.

I think that US forces should leave, but not all at once. If they do all at once, it will be widespread anarchy and chaos.

But I believe the US should withdraw slowly, as they did in Vietnam. It would achieve 3 goals:
1) The Iraqi's hate having soldiers patrolling their streets
2) It would allow enough time for Iraqi troops to take over
3) And it will soon end the occupation.

If they stay any longer, then the widespread chaos will go on. Popular resentment will grow, and more will die. It is imperative that they begin slowly leaving now.

I agree that they need to withdraw and they need to do it slowly. Staying in there longer will just make the Iraqi's more angery at the US and many many more will die. But also as wurk wurk said if he pull out right now there will be complete chaos.

Civil war, maybe. Complete chaos, doubtful. What do you think is supposed to come of freedom? You think the American revolution did not pin American's against pro-british Americans? There will be more bloodshed no matter what the U.S. action entails, however, there's no reason to believe that the Iraqi's can't sort out a feasible political system on their own, and at least this way you know in the end it's one supported by the Iraqi people. Look at it this way, if they're already armed and mobile, they're not going to allow U.S. control to be replaced with any other form of control they don't agree with.

U.S. needs to get out and get out NOW. The only thing we owe the Iraqi people now is economic support for all the destruction we caused. This need not come in the form of contracts for US companies. Let them decide who is to rebuild their infrastructure. But we do owe them money, period, and if the U.S. had any interest in Iraqi freedom they would no longer be there.

Let's not kid ourselves, there already is chaos, the difference between now and after a complete pull out is that right now there is an illusion of hope. As it seems with most US foreign operations, the grass is rarely greener on the other side.
