Bangladesh fire leaves 22 dead

Bangladesh police say at least 22 people have been killed in a fire at a garment factory near capital, Dhaka.

They said dozens more were injured in the fire that broke out at Shaan Knitting and Processing Limited at Siddirganj suburb on Thursday night.

Lax safety standards and poor wiring cause several fatal factory fires every year in Bangladesh.

Officials said the factory has 700 employees.

Bangladesh earns more than $5bn a year from garment exports.

The sector employs about two million workers, most are women.

Prediction: there will be no world-wide campaign for the victims of the unnatural disaster of capitalism.

maybe you could be psychic. like espn right?? when has the world, dominated by the capitalist beast, ever cared about the death of so few? unless it was terrorism, then it'd have front page coverage. its takes a truly enormous cataclysm to stir the sleeping giant that is the world population? 9/11 ,the madrid bombings, the lockerby plane crash, etc. people just don;t care. its too few too far away. its sadbut its the situation.

or because in every country of the world, lots of people die every week from accidents and neglect in the work-place. its just not news. if 500 had been killed, then yes, but things have happend in my town in the old factories where 20 men have been killed by machinery. it wasnt in the news because its not going to change the world anytime soon.

why should the world population care about 20 guys in a factory or your 22 people in their factory ? 160,000 being killed in a natural disaster is news because it will affect people.

and im sure the evil captialists dont purposefully surpress news of industrial accidents, its just that outside of immediate family and friend circles, its not important. get over it.

Yes, their deaths are because of capitalism, but because the event was so small, and things like this happen all over the world, many, many, many times, no one cares.

P.S. Hey, Sovietsky Souyuz, you spelled your username wrong (no offence), the "Sovietsky" part is okay, although it would be better off as "Sovietski" and the "Souyus" part should be "Sojusz", "Sojus", or "Sojuz".

Why should his name be spelled with a "j" instead of a "y"?

If you were to say "Soviet Union" in Russian, it would sound exactly like "Sovietsky Souyuz."

Most English-speakers would see the "j" and pronounce it as a regular "j," not a "y."

How does this benefit capitalists?

They will lose thousands or even millions of dollars due to this accident.

This is a failure of capitalism, yes, but most capitalists have the sense not to let their place burn down as that costs them huge amounts of profit.

Hopefully the loss in production will drive him from the market.

Use your head for just two seconds.

The capitalist class benefitted by not making sure everything was safe. They saved money. They do that stuff because they make their money by screwing the working class. Get used to it or get fighting it.
