I've just lisened to war pigs and it talks about the chaos and distruction of war. were they opposed to something at the time? Children of the grave also says something about revolution.

In the early days with Ozzy yes they wrote songs that were anti-war and had social commentary. War Pigs being the most obvious. Hand of Doom is an anti-heroin song. There are others too not all are blatant with commentary.

Vietnam had only officially started a year before they formed (1966) (however, there had been conflict and Americans in Vietnam since 1961 I believe, apparently though the first officially published conflict was in 1965 (according to the shite We Were Soldiers)).
Anyways yes, any good rock band has songs about drugs, sex and the devil...well, any good metal band...rarely however are there punk/grunge/indie songs about the devil.

Of course they dont, any good punk band knows that it has a duty to be as tuneless as possible, sing in the same amercian nasal voice about the same jump-on-the-bandwagon crap. Georgy bush aint the worlds biggest problem.
Grunge - as a big movement it died when cobain re-decorated his living room wall, and i always thought it was just miserable anyways.
Indie ? are indie bands the much ridiculed 'The' bands ?

Oh, well you're friendly, insulting the genres with 0 provocation whatsoever.
Not to mention your ideas have no competent grounding whatsoever.
Punk originally was English in the late 70s, way before bush. Punk is rarely tuneless, have you actually heard any real punk? The Adverts? The Clash? Buzzcocks? Undertones? X-Ray Spex? Dead Kennedys? Misfits? Bad Religion? Huh? Have ya? Clearly not. Idiot.
Grunge was a) not all miserable and b) didn't die with Kurt Cobain and is still going in many ways, just as a very small subculture (Mudhoney, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam are still going). To name a few non-miserable grunge songs, Nirvana - Opinions, Sliver, L7 - Wargasm, American Society, Most stuff by Pearl Jam.
Indie bands follow no strict rules, many are not "the bands" such as Four Star Mary, Oasis, Pulp, Joy Division and New Order (okay, post punk but practically indie).
Dude, you're being worse than I was with prog. At least I didn't just flame for the hell of it.

Ah yes, now I remember, and wonder "why the hell did I write that?"...Seriously because I've been listening to Audioslave for years.

I read somewhere after 9-11 Ozzy referred to some anti afghan war protesters as 'tree people." It kind of set me aback too knowing about the War Pigs lyrics..but I guess being old, white, and rich itd be a miracle it he werent a little conservative.

All it takes is a few years and some money and people can change their outlook pretty quickly. Also remeber that he's been decimated by drugs over the past 30 years.
