I belive I may be able to donate some penicillin, I will see what I can do.

Added

Ok I've managed to gain some aspirin and penicillin, i will buy some more stuff tomorrow, and will gather a great amount of supplies from friends.

2 questions:

1. should I enclose a letter?
2. Should it be in Spainish?

You rock man! :)

Email the email address and inform them that you are sending some stuff. I would enclose a letter, just to let them know where it's come from. It doesnt have to be in Spanish.

I have sent them tonnes of pain killers because they're easy to buy. Although the woman in the store must have thought I was crazy. I didnt know that you can only buy 16 paracetamol at any one time from a pharmacist....

Cheers, Im a strong supporter of the EZLNs cause. Anyway I can help, Im willing.

I've managed to gather more than I had expected, many boxes of Ibuprofen, paracetomol, some aspirin, (first 3 on the list  ) and im still getting more. I have some bandages in my garage, I may enclose them also.

Only thing, they haven't responded to my email sent 2 days ago, if they don't respond I will probably post it anyway, with an explanatory letter.

I got an email from them within a day or so, and they said to send the stuff to the address, so just do it. Also add a letter.

Yea, I'll just send it anyway, including the letter.

One thing I was wondering, is that apparently for posting parcels in England you have to label the contents, is it legal to post large amounts of paracetamol and aspirin?

I spoke to Royal mail and they said the only thing you're not allowed to post is foot and mouth vaccine.

It's fine that you send these things, provided they are in their original packaging, so you cant take the pills out of their pop foil thing and keep the seperatly, they all have to be original and secure and in boxes and stuff.

I will get something together too. I don't think I really have anything lying around and if I do it's probably expired anyway. So, I'm just going to go and buy some as long as I am able to obtain it and I'll let you know what I'm sending once I get it together.

Thanks for the info, I'm glad to do whatever I can to help the members of the Revolution!

I wonder if there isn't some way to set up an account with a local pharmacy, as the Mexican prices are much less, and the labels would be in Spanish. Also there are many things there that you can't get over the counter here like almost anything anymore, but especially antibiotics.

Perhaps they deal with certain pharmacies in San Cristobel de las Casas.

There are a lot of things to do, but to begin it seems getting aquinted with your local Amnesty International and doing regular work with them so that people can reference your level of commitment to helping others is important. By such references others will be more willing to work with you. Have them write letters of reference to you that are in Spanish are translated. But anything you can do from where you live to help support the schools like getting kids in your class to help send supplies would be helpful. For someone your age to go may not be wise, but you can set up a supportive community where you are and focus on helping one school by setting up a letter writing campaign back and forth that lets the local government know that the school has international or national support. Also getting supplies together to send.

There are several groups that help schools and school teachers in Chiapas that are available on the net.

Okay, I got some things together. Aspirin, Tylenol, bandages, tape for bandages, folic acid and I'm going to get this together and send them out on Monday. Unfortunately I can only send stuff that doesn't require a prescription because the mail office said that in order for me to be able to send a prescribed substance, I have to include the prescription and the person's name and address that it's for where it's being shipped to.

Why do you need to send it to the US?

As for Mexico, it's fine to send prescription drugs provided they are in there original package.

I will be sending some meds asap, however, I am only 16 so it will only be over the counter medication.

In Search of True Thinkers
15th February 2005, 02:13
I checked with USPS today and the clerk informed me that that shipment of meds into Mexico is prohibited by the Mexican gov. and that they may be confiscated once they cross the border. Perhaps a paypal account can be set up to aid this cause?

The Feral Underclass
15th February 2005, 08:47
I spoke to Royal Mail and they said that it was perfectly acceptable to send originally packaged prescription or non prescription medication. I dont know how it is in America.

GlassDraggon
15th February 2005, 08:48
I've got shitloads of over the counter medications and even got my hands on some anti-biotics which are shipable. Sent mostly pain meds but I found some other commonly used stuff that I thought would be helpful. I included gauze for wounds and sterilization products (including medical tape).

Hopefully our efforts will ease some of the suffering and support the cause.

I was thinking same thing? Would this be against school policy?I don't want my organization under heat for maybe supplying a leftist/terrorist organization.

So the people like I from the states can still send things like Gauze it would seem. Why dont we gather large amounts of sterilization and non-drug aid and send it?

I will begin working on gathering supplies.

This sounds great, I too am in the US so I'll send non-drug aid. I would love o help them in anyway, and I love their coffee and honey, maybe we can work out a deal, just kidding, I'll do it out of charity.

I think this to be a fantastic idea i look up to the zapatistas and i would love to help them in anyway i can.so ill send what ever i can to help them out.

Entrails Konfetti
14th June 2005, 00:29
How about just sending them American dollars, if I sent them 20$ it would be equivalent to 220 pesos. And they could buy alot of pharmacy supplies with that .

lennonist-leninist
14th June 2005, 03:35
seending the zapatistas american currency will give them more pesos. but thay have very limited pharmacy supplies and even with the amount thay have right now it wouldent be nerly enough to assist the hospital. as sending suppliys would if everyone sent money insted of medicin there would just be money that thay cant use but thay need the medical supplies now so i think it would best to send the supplies.

codyvo
14th June 2005, 04:59
Lennonist-Leninist, his brother and myself, all pitched in and bought 60 dollars worth of supplies for the zapatistas. I'm going to need more information on sending mail to another county, like what postage I should use and if it should be in spanish, and what I can and can't send to other countries. Anyways, I got the supplies so I'll get them to Chiapas somehow.

Do they have currency exchange in Chiapas, why wouldn't they be able to use the American Currency ?

I just don't want to send them only gauze seeing that I can't send medicine and I'm afriad of the Mexican Policia ripping through my package and the Zappatistas not receiving it.

So I'd rather just send money....or are you saying the medical supplies in Chiapas are limited ?
