View Full Version : The Apprentice

I think popular culture just taught me something. Capitalists are nasty, whiney, backstabbing bastards who love nothing more than taking the biggest slice of the pie.

It also taught me that Donald Trump is an egotistical prick :D

What have you learnt from the Apprentice?

That watching it is a waste of time (I think you could learn from a better source).

I would have told you the same thing; though I don't watch it, I see the shitty ads here and there.

I hope others will gather a similar understanding from it.

They do such stupid tasks to just get a job.

I honestly hope you won't use the Apprentice as your source for information about Capitalism. The show is stupid, boring, and yes, Trump is an egotist.

That's why Bill Gates hasn't made "The Intern".

The Assitant also showed me how people in Hollwood can be such assholes. And also how funny Andy Dick is.

You don't need to to watch reality TV to learn this kind of stuff.

What is that suppose to mean?

Gates is equally egotistical.

What I meant was, he's not going into massive bankruptcy, and he's not making himself into a TV icon with some corny catch phrase like "You're DELETED!"

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

I hope it's getting good ratings.

its shows like this that dumb down american children and enforce the concepts of the capitalist economy from an early age.

Yup, I have seen the sad effects at school.

I'm so glad my father decided not to have a TV in the house; I think it saved me from becoming a liberal/conservative. :P

We still don't have a TV in the house; and I don't care for one, now when I look at TV, I see it as complete crap.

Unfortunately, I don't think that all viewers or even most viewers are getting that message. It probably gets pretty good ratings, but most likely it's just folks who don't give a flying fuck about the lack of justice of the status quo, or have even given a serious moment's thought to it.

Most people who would even infer anti-capitalist sentiments from that program, wouldn't even watch such garbage.

I think that everyone who watches shows like subconsciously resists the subliminal messages and thats when people watching feel alittle ill. or tired of the program. unfortunately, the only thing on when they change channels is more of the same propaganda and brainwashing. at my school im attempting to get a political soapbox setup allowed whre anyone can say what they like within the boundaries of good taste and anyone can reply. like an editorial/opinion page from a newspaper, only TV.

 Well you forgot about me then!!

My mum and sister are reality TV addicts, most reality TV has a dodgy capitalist undertone, I always find it and point it out :D

Schools are responsible for producing children with anti-conceptual mentalities, who are more likely to be socialist than anything else.

Lies! Provide your reasoning; I'm not wasting my time debunking a point you haven't even made.

Considering that the majority of schoolkids are apolitical, what is your reasoning?

Watching The Apprentice has taught me that I have too much fucking time on my hands.

(But now I work when it's on so I don't have too much time on my hands anymore).

my comment about bad tv creating little cappie peons through subconscious messages is pretty easy to explain.

1: kids see this shit and think, i could do that
2: it teaches children that they can get anywhere if they work at it which is a lie
3: schools only teach children to conform and to buckle down to the "man" if anyone buys that crap about being able to express themselves in high school then they didn't go to any HS in america.in fact they didn't go to ANY school in america.
4: the comment from noxion is close. kids aren't apolitical, they come out with a pretty solid liberal or conservative bias. this is still a capitalist mindset.even the most liberal kids at my school think socialism/communism is way out there as a political stance
5: i didn't say that all kids want to grow up to be capitalist backstabbing bastards, but they are constantly bombarded in school and on television with capitalist concepts. like...
5a: if i just work really hard for the rest of my life for shit wages, i can still get somewhere
5b: if person X is rich and famous i could be like them too. not realizing that these people have gotten rich and famous through the exploitation of hundreds. Hell, donald trump only did the apprentice cuase hes starting to get less wealthy.

a good example of this kind of dislogic is the south park episode where they download music off the internet and are arrested. they are lead to rich peoples houses like the singer from metallica who " will have to wait alittle while to put in his gold plated pool bar" and was doomed to be " only moderately wealthy"
what a shame the kids say and hold a sit in to make no music until downloading is stopped. all these big names like Brittany Spears, P Diddy, and Metallica join them. the boys realize that music is about making music not money and tell this to the musicians. They all leave cuz theyre only there for the money. Oh say the kids. well shit.
