This is a question that plagues every organsiation organising for a public meeting because you have to try and anticipate when people will feel they want to come the most. What is the best day of the week for a public meeting?
I always think the weekend, but many people o out on Saturday evening say. Maybe during the day on Saturday or Sunday, as the day of rest?
I think days at the beginning of the week are always bad. People are always so grumpy about being back at work, but by Thursday they maybe happier because its the day before the weekend, so possibly Thursday?
What are peoples opinions?

I very much agree with a day of the such thursday or even wednesday, simply because they find themselves around in the centre of the working week. They aren't in any extreme which could contain stress due to deadlines or simple bad humour as you already said.
In my opinion public meetings on political subjects should be the broadest possible when placing them in categories. The objective is to have a largest audience possible. Most should just be advertised as "Suitable and interesting for anyone who sees faults in our society".
Especially in this these days that public awareness against capitalism is manifesting itself under a more neutral and less defined ideology. I think this method can be very effective in "educating" the politically ignorant, it can be used as a bridge which will then lead to further defined ideologies. But the main objective being to broadly promote critical thinking, and questioning of our present day society.
Public meetings are vital. But more important are those that attend them and the impact it may have on them; leading to an eventual impact on society itself.

I think it depends on the kind of meeting it's going to be.
Wednesday evening is a good choice for a "lecture & discussion" kind of meeting...one that might begin at 7:30pm and be over by 9:30pm at the latest.
Another good choice might be late Saturday afternoon...say 4:00pm to 6:00pm -- people are then free to eat and go out afterwards.
A good time for small collectives to meet is Sunday morning...around 10:00am. Have breakfast during the meeting. :)
A large meeting that must make decisions needs lots of time to work with...Saturday afternoon around 1:00pm is a good time to start -- with a scheduled dinner break -- 5:30pm to 7:00pm -- before resuming. With luck it will be over by midnight. :D
