May I suggest a revolutionaryleft meetup for east coast members or anyone that is going to be in the Washington DC area a day or so before that date? We can all go to protest together :)

next question: how many rev-left members live on the east coast, and how many can get to Washington?

And what do you plan to do? Egging him again would be kind of lowly.

I dont see a point to this protest we cant do anything he wont get impeached unless he fucks up hardcore but even then I see it hard for him to get caught doing something dumb.

The point to protest??? Who cares if there is a point. Thats why we gotta make it a unique protest, something that makes people think, get a little violent even. Capture the media is enough of a reason to protest. If we get on TV burning a car or something (not that it'll happen even though it might make good TV, and thats all media officials give a shit about) then we can shape a discussion or two. Thats the power of media, and sooner or later, or NOW we must begin to use the media to our advantage instead of just bash it.

trex
6th January 2005, 19:49
want something to get the Media's attention? Get as close as possible to Bush getting sworn in (if they do that for incumbents, I forgot), wear all black, turn away from him, erect a makeshift American flag on a post, lower it, and re-raise it upside down.

They will eat that stuff up.

Wow, I would LOVE to go and participate in this. But as a sixteen-year-old high school student who has no car and school on Inauguration Day, I don't know how I would. Anyone in the same situation, or have any suggestions? I'm REALLY set on doing this.

...Somehow.

I say block the road. Run out into the streets. Stop the motorcade. Make them make mistakes. Make them come out from behind the mask.

I too will be occupied on inauguration day, which is why i'm pulling ideas out my yin-yang so people who can, will.

Blocking his motorcade would be a good idea...how about a die-in? They do that crap in front of tobacco companies, and of course the liberal media will love us.

ALL OUT ON JANUARY 20th!!!
4 pm
U.S. Consulate
360 University Ave.

George W. Bush, a war criminal, will be inaugurated on January 20th and people around the world will protest!

The COALITION AGAINST WAR AND RACISM
Issues a call out to mobilize on January 20, the inauguration of Bush!

Act Now Against War and Racism! Support the Counter-Inaugural demo in the U.S.!
Mobilize against secret trials, security certificates and illegal deportations!
Say NO to the Ballistic Missile Defense System!
Expose the Axis of Evil: U.S. militarization, exploitation and racism!
End the occupation of Iraq and Palestine!
Stand in solidarity with the people of Fallujah!
Demand the release of all political prisoners!

In Europe and the U.S., people have begun to organize and demonstrate on January 20th!
Money for Jobs, Education and Healthcare, Not for War. Stand in defence of civil rights and civil liberties. It is imperative that the antiwar forces deepen their solidarity. Expose the Liberals and their warmongering plans, their pillaging and plundering of third world countries and their immoral and illegal involvement in Haiti, Iraq and Palestine. Canada cannot be considered a democracy when a large number of the population are considered subjects and not citizens when it has a system of apartheid via reservations, when it uses immigration as a tool of social control illegally, deporting hundreds of legitimate claimants. NO ONE IS ILLEGAL!
We stand for social justice, equality and peace!! We believe it can be done!
There are examples of concrete resistance and defiance against imperialist aggression around the world. From Nepal to Latin America, people are showing us the way. A way out of the neoliberal economic policies devastating the livelihoods of working people, destroying the environment and displacing thousands of First Nations peoples around the world.

Antiwar forces must make clear linkages between the defense of civil liberties at home and the opposition to colonial occupations and conquest abroad.

We call on all antiwar forces to stand together on this day of global demonstrations and solidarity!

next question: how many rev-left members live on the east coast, and how many can get to Washington?

I'm on the east coast, within driving distance of DC. Who else? A meetup would be awesome!

Blocking his motorcade would be a good idea...how about a die-in? They do that crap in front of tobacco companies, and of course the liberal media will love us.

I would love a die in right in front of the motorcade, but alas I doubt we would be able to get through security...

I don't advocate violence as a form of protest this time. I think the media would only portray it in a negative light.

I'm actually tapped out of ideas for forms of protest at the moment though. Nothing practical is coming to mind...:-/

now, we need a plan for where the active members will meet up. Or of course, you could join one of the existing protests, such as the ones mentioned in the top post in the thread.

That's a good idea! World Strike. Sounds interesting, but you'll need to amass ina public place to even look like you're serious about it.

Indeed. The motorcade will most likely be the largest gathering, however, what about a west coast demonstration? Perhaps we should start a new thread to organize and plan for the east coast demonstartions and another thread for the west coast?

I think it's good to have the category set aside as 'inaugaration day protests' as is. Let's see...if you want, you can create some programs to flood his website and crash it. But we need real world protests, so what to do...and how to do it...

It shows just how many people don't want him to be president, in case he doesn't know already. What would be the point in impeaching him? that won't do shit.

Haha, people turning their backs on him while he's gonna be inaugerated will be hilarious, however not very fierce, or something.

trex
7th January 2005, 23:33
look, if the protesters use violence, then that's only more ammunition for right-winged factions to fill thier rifles with.

The American flag raised upside down is supposed to be a symbol of distress, serious distress. It would be a good idea to do an upside-down flag ceremony in front of his motorcade! Think about that!

Let's see, what do republican's hate about democrats? Bill of rights?

I see the calls for a world protest. I have recently sent out some emails to some leftist organizations but I think it would be more effective if all who are interested can do the same. Che Guevara searched for unity in the Socialist Bloc but never found it. I think its time we start to spark that search in ourselves (he never had the internet as a medium).

I agree 100% with everyone's ideas! However I'm in Iowa and can't make the trek. Just a little for-warning when I was at a Bush protest here during the campaigning I had an upside down flag on a little stick thingy and it pissed of most of the people I was with, who were just agnry Democrats. Soo just realize you're not just protesting the inaguration, you represent something contrary to some of the fellow protesters beliefs as well! Have a good time, get in trouble!

I read in the washington post the other day that they will have EXTENSIVE security measures that day. They have a command post some 25 miles away in Virginia which acts as the electronic nerve center. Here, specialists will process images provided by helicopters and building cameras. Basically, an eye in the sky. Along with that there will be quite a few uniforms out there as well. The most startling thing I read was probably the statement which said that the command post could even run simulated releases of chemicals, if need be. We have to pick our battles guys. Maybe its all a scare but I'd watch yourselves if I were you. I'll be in Canada the date this happens but I'll be cheering you comrades on.

Thats amazing....I'm really inclined to believe that you're truely dedicated to the cause. Lead by example my friend I'll be sure to follow. As for the security situation here's something off of democracynow.org

Police to do 'Behavior Monitoring' at Inauguration
Police officers are using new behavioral profiling techniques as they patrol subway stations, identifying suspicious riders and pulling them aside for questioning. According to The Washington Post, the officers are targeting people who avoid eye contact, loiter or appear to be looking around transit stations more than other passengers. Anyone identified as suspicious will be stopped and questioned about what they are doing and where they are going. As part of their preparations for tighter security during the presidential inauguration, the officers have been trained by the Transportation Security Administration to take notice of the same behavioral characteristics and patterns that airport security officials watch for. A similar observation regime at Boston's Logan International Airport has been challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union, which filed a lawsuit on behalf of an African American ACLU employee who said he was stopped and questioned by police for no reason after arriving on a flight from the West Coast. The behavior monitoring is part of the extensive security apparatus being established for the inauguration. But, the so-called nerve center for the most heavily guarded presidential inauguration in history will not be in Washington, but 25 miles away in a futuristic command post in Northern Virginia. Inside a gleaming steel-and-marble complex, the Secret Service and 50 federal, state and local agencies will monitor action in the sky, on the ground and in the subway system. Giant plasma screens will beam in live video from helicopters and cameras at the U.S. Capitol, along the parade route and at other areas. Officials will be able to track fighter jets patrolling the skies and call up three-dimensional maps of downtown. In other inauguration news, Washington D.C. officials said yesterday that the Bush administration is refusing to reimburse the District for most of the costs associated with the inauguration, breaking with precedent and forcing the city to divert more than $11 million from homeland security projects.

Yeah, some fiscal conservatives huh? Well, being an angry young person (and from the University of Maryland, where projectMOSH began and where we riot if we win or lose) I am looking forward to clashing with such security measures. And I do mean clash. If American students continue to be lax, then what kind of message is that sending to the rest of the world. When I see the activism and protest that has been occuring in the Ukraine and what occured when President Bush visited Chile (cars burned, people arrested, a real riot), I kind of feel sad that the American youth have just been eating McDonalds and going on with their daily lives like it does not affect them, feeding the apathy that has occured under this neoliberal regime. What does the rest of the world's educated youth with the same dreams we have think of us? The time has come to show the world's youth that we are listening and we do hear you.

Ok OK boys. The point is to grab media attention, not kill somebody (please resist the urge, I know its strong). It sounds self centered, but if they stop reporting all the good things about capitalism and pay attention to a group that has different ideas for once, maybe we'll get somewhere.

Yeah i have the same problem. Exept im only 14. I would love to go protest that fascist. I think the best thing to do would be to block the street, throw stuff at his limo, "entertain" the media, etc. Hopefully itll be a good protest. Too bad i have no way of getting to DC. :(

So much for freedom of expression. What if I bring a cross to the parade?

Anyway..................I dont give a crap. Is this a protest or not? There are some of those who put their lives on the line for freedom, whats a little detainee time gonna do? I say arrest me. Do it, and let the press see you do it. Let's see a court of law impose a fine or anything on an AMERICAN exercising his right of FREE SPEECH.

From Project MOSH.com

"Our demonstration spot on Pennslyvania Ave. We will get there via metro. The closest metro stop is Union Station (Red Line). There is a 5 min. walk once you get out of the metro:
Take Louisiana Ave till Constitution Ave.
Turn Right on Constitution.
Turn Right at Pennsylvania
Stop at 4th
9AM to be best meeting time"

And for out-of state protester, you can go to www.counter-inaugural.org for housing possiblities, this is bigger than you guys thought.

I will be there on the 20th, and in the spirit of Che, this will be the beginning of the end for them. Soon, we will have a poor peoples march on D.C. like MLK was going t do before he was assassinated. Down with "Hitler" Bush!

Many are thinking the same things but in case you havn't noticed the media controls what the general public sees. If someone throws a rock or god forbid a cocktail at the police, that one clip will rerun on fox for the next month. (the police/ss very well might open up on the crowed with live ammo, wouldn't that be something <_< ) There is a time for direct action and a time for being calm and quiet. We aren't there to battle the police. We sure as hell are not there to get arrested within the first 10 minutes of being there. I use 'we' to show solidarity not to speak for everyone. So far I plan to attend possibly with another anti war buddy of mine. I agree though, we need another N30, a few of them. Right in a row. Philadlephia, Washington, Miami. :D

NyChe21

We still must remember that media is still a business. We must incite something so outrageous and huuuuuuge that they can't ignore it without sacrificing quality news coverage. We didnt really see many photos of the protests happening in Central Park during the Republican Convention because it was the normal run of the mill public gathering. It might as well have been a concert. But what did get on the news was when they draped a huge anti-war banner over a building and let the press see them do it. Creative and out in the open protests will at least make people think and discuss, that is the first step to revolution.

I heard that there are structures being built where protestors are supposed to be. That means the more space they fill the less bodies can fill that space. Anyways, if they do happen to build structures, like bleachers or whatever, it ought to be torn down.

Why don't we do something different than just throw eggs at the limo,etc.. Whoever it was that posted running in the streets infront of the limo might have hit the nail in the head. Or one (if not, some) protestor(s) could do what the unknown civilian did in Tiananman Square and get infront of the limo and block it.

NyChe21
