I don't know about the rest of you, but my whole life, whenever I'm down, or even when I'm just pointing something out, people come at me with the argument that I should be "thankful". I should be thankful for being born, for having parents that stick together, for living in my particular reigon of the world, you get the jist.
What has occured to me lately (given that it's something everybody has to say) is that this "thankful" attitude, creates an environment where class consciosness is almost insulting to people, because we should be "thankful".
Does anyone here agree with the "thankful" approach to everything? And those that agree with me, how might we combat this thorn in our side, ither than just saying "fuck thankful"?

I understanding what you are saying, it is hard to explain class conciseness to people that are unaware, especially the middle class. "Being thankful" usually comes up when talking to the submissive and docilewho think things are also fine the way they are. I find it very difficult to deal with these people, thats why it is histrorically easier to convince the directly oppressed. It is good to bring up relivant examples and exaplain the terrible things capitalism causes.
I would also like to hear more ideas of how to deal with the "be thankful" people.

I find it's prbably the biggest problem with the middleclass, but I've noticed it more with religious or formerly religious people, or people with religious parents, rather than just middle class people per say.

Well maybe their religious beliefs and behavior is more of a problem and might needed to be delt with first.

People sometimes use the words "thankful" in quite unbecoming terms as if you should not be sad, never feel depressed, never get our eyes wet, never feel a pain become someone else has it harder then we, even though you have to help yourself before having a greater ability to help someone else.

I guess the solution is that we should be thankful for what the nature has ordaned to us and maybe... also some favors recieved in social relations, but not to feel thankful in the EXPLOITATIVE PRODUCTION MODE, where cappos own the means of production and expect us to be "thankful"

I wouldn't use the world thankful, cause I think it's just luck that we are what we are.If we are depressed because we can't buy the...car we want and then someone says that we should be thankful that we have a slice of bread to eat(cos other ppl don't even have that),well that's right, but since we have the bread and housing for sure, we have the ability to care about other things.I'm not saying that we must overdo it,like wasting our money.I don't really like the word "thankful" because as i said we are just lucky to be in the situation we are.

Yeah I hear you, but people always have this argument when your talking about class war, that you should just be thankful to live in a country where they give student loans. It's like c'mon! why would I be thankful when I have no one to thank?
Plus I believe it is the thankful attititude that is a huge part of the problem, at least amongst the middle classes. How are we ever gonna change a thing when we're thankful for no real reason.
