Is it possible that the Tsunami Disaster that happened in Asia recently, could be repeaded again on the West coast (North California, Washington).. I've heard talk of this, and was just wondering what your opinions are, on this matter..

I would assume it could happen in that region, California is in a known earth quake zone. Now matter how powerful people think the U$ is, they cannot prevent natural disaters like that.

When was the last time the Trans-atlantic fault moved a large distance? That could be devastating for both sides of the Atlantic.
The San Andreas fault on the west coast could cause a tsunami too and with that coast you don't have as much warning.
But who knows, last week there was a quake of 8.1 on the Richter Scale south of Tasmania and I don't think there were any Tsunamis

The US has a highly advanced warning system, so even if a massive tsunami occurred, ther would be time to save lives.
US knew about tsunami. (http://www.aljazeera.com/me.asp?service_ID=6430)

The fact is most of the Western world knew about the Tsunami an hour before it struck as the Met Office picked it up on satellite. They didn't do anything about it though.

If it happened in the Pacific, there would be a warning, although there still might not be time for people to evacuate - tsunamis move fast. Apparently the Indonesian and Thai governments, which are part of the Pacific monitoring system, were warned and didn't pass on the warning in time - possibly they didn't have time to do much, being so close to the epicenter.
If it happened in the Atlantic, there might not be any more warning than in the Indian Ocean.
I don't know if more solid building construction might reduce the death toll. Many people were killed by the impact of the wave, as it smashed their houses or threw them into the ground. Certainly building codes and construction methods have a huge effect on the death toll of earthquakes.
