hello there, i dont often post here, but i always drop by to read, took a huge interest in politcs and world events just after the 9/11 attack. (Im not American). something just "clicked" and from that day, ive gained a huge interest, when i was first turned onto politics, i had no idea or real understanding, however over time i became more and more interested, i began reading into this fasinating subject.

I got a copy of the Communist Manifesto, quite a long time back, after reading that piece, i knew what was right, and it opened my eyes to the horrors and problems with Capitalism. following that i read about the Cuban revoltion and a few books on Che. I then joined the Young Communist League of the UK.

now im here to ask the more mature and experienced help of the users here. on a political scale of the Left, i dont know where i exactly fall, its just something that has been eating away at my mind.. i shall tell you my policies, or how i would conduct things in an ideal way, then it would be great if you could give me your opinion of where i "sit" on the left scale. thankyou.

I am a strong Atheist, reason, its a oppression of human kind and there is nothing more responsible for wars and the ultimate division of human kind.
I would say revolution would be best carried out in arms way. I just dont think an entire capitalist system, media, industry, and political instituations could be brought down by "peace-ful" revolution. The best way to carry out the revolution in my way is by mass-uprising and taking over political, industrial and media instituations by force.

As far as industry goes, i would consider the right path would be full out nationalisation. Becoming 'propetry' of the state and the public. Al though all opposition parties would be banned, i would like to call the system a 'single party democracy". The workers run and make their own major choices on the places they work via trade and workers unions. Also changes can be brought into the constitution by the people through workers unions.

Another point i would include is the total abolishment of private enterprise of anykind. the total abolishment of religious schools too. All education, from school, to college to univeristy should be free for the people, aswell as all healthcare be free and ready to the people.

All private housing would be taken, the owners compensated by the state and become community ran. Free housing for everyone. All media too would be state-owned ofcourse as any private enterprise is outlawed to stop the rich using means of labour to expolit workers and gain vast ammounts of weath, in effect, this creates a classless society.

Once the above changes have all smoothy set in, and the capitalist roots weeded out, then the state would wither away, and transpire into Communism.

okay, so the above are my ideals...where do i sit on the left wing 'scale;...what am i?
confused!

Hmmm, you have a huge leaning towards Trotskyism/Leninism
Visit here Marxist site (http://www.marxist.net) or here (http://www.revolutionaryleft.com/index.php?showtopic=29944) or Here (http://www.marxists.org) and read! You'll soon find where you fit in. The important thing is you have your values and views and it doesn't really matter where you 'sit' on the leftist scale.
I'm sure others here will be helpful too!!

While I'm not a trotskyist myself, I agree that seems to be where you're heading.

I'm of the opinion however, that if there is a state, having one party is a mistake.

You'll need to allow more than one party, considering you're talking about a workers' council system. It's how the soviets where shortly after the revolution. In that case, the party was not the only force. There were Anarchists involved, there were different parties, and soviets elected there own.

In future, to avoid 1) attracting reactionaries to a single centre of power and 2) allowing minor splits to turn into atrocities and/or civil war, you must allow for several parties (none of which would be allowed to run on a platform of return to Capitalism). I'd imagine that, again if there's a state, there would even be several competing communist parties with different ideas.

I'd be done with it and just turn it all over to the soviets in a delegate system, no state, no problem

thank you for the helpful replies.

so you two would say im more personally along the lines of Trotskyism/Leninism?, and if i were in a position of power my nation would have simlar ideals and policy to that of the Earlier Soviet Union?

In reply to my own choice of having a single party Democracy, i feel there would be no need to have other Political groups as changes could be made to the consitution etc via mass vote in workers and trade unions. if the masses want a change in the Communist Party Policy, they can still bring it about by Democratic means.
