As a sort of annual easter convergence (there have been previous ones held at easter, sometimes at different detention centres), various refugee groups have organised a convergence on Baxter Detention Centre on March 25-28 to voice our support for the mistreated refugees and our animosity at the Howard government's draconian policies.

More information can be attained from here (http://www.baxter05.info/).

Currently this site has little information, but closer to the event undoubtedly it wil be updated.

For those in the Melbourne area, I do have additional information:

There is are buses organised for the convergence by the Refugee Action Collective. The buses leave Melbourne at 8pm, Thursday the 24th of March and will return by the afternoon of Monday the 28th of March. Tickets are $150, but $100 for concession holders. I am not sure of the picking up point, but I would presume it would be Trades Hall in Carlton.

For further information contact the Refugee Action Collective on 9659 3505 ([email protected])

There will also be a planning day at 1-5pm, Saturday the 22nd of January at Trades Hall in Carlton.

I will post more information when I recieve it. Or if anyone else has any info, by all means post it.

Any expressions of interest?

I most likely will be going. :)

I reckon I will take a plane to Melbourne then take the bus from there. I've been thinking about living in Melbourne though, so I'm not sure what my situation will be.

I will also most likely attend the planning day while I am over in Melbourne for the Big Day Out.
