well an update after the first day of protests here in Ottawa against the G8.

Really its a small group here. maybe not more than a couple of hundered people. very peaceful. I was a part of the march on the US embassy. no riot police out. they were all in vans on the side of the road, but just plain uniform cops were everywhere.
i saw no arrests today although i heard there were some incidents with dogs this morning. i also heard someone barricaded him or herself in a building but at this point it is an unsubstantiated rumour.

cops had little handheld camcorders recording everything that went on (fuck my security clearance for the department ofjustice is never going to go through now).
anyway, will keep you all posted , in case any of you are interested.

why thank you. i try.

it was definatley amusing though. one of my well-intended friends (but a little politically ignorant sometimes) was walking with me, dressed like Jackie 0, holding her red flag with no knowledge of what it meant. lol

Apprently i was wrong. there was one arrest in Ottawa. but i'd have to say that's pretty damned good. the protestors are rather happpy about that. the streets are defiantely covered in sidewalk chalk everywhere though.

but i'm really annoyed i just read an article about the protest in ottawa printed by the canadian press. and even though this demonstration was prefectly peaceful, they still mention how they are usually violent. etc. what a fucking annoyance.....we are finally getting away from that image and these fuckers have to bring it up again. i guess i've got some writing to the press to do.

ok i've just returned from day 2 of the protests. really good today. lot an dlots of people...i heard estimates of 6 digit numbers but i don't know for certain. but there were a lot of people there. Totally peaceful. No arrests (that i'm aware of) and no issues with cops. didn't see the riot police at all. it went really well. i'm very proud of everyone for doing such a good job and for helping to get our message (including a message of non-violence across)

what is the deal with Jackie O and a red flag, I heard in a RATM song once," I wanna walk around in a pair of dark sunglasses, I wanna be Jackie O O O, please don't die!" I think it was revolver. I never got the meaning of that?

I know what you mean about the news...on the National a couple nights ago pretty much the whole thing was coverage of the non-violent protests across the country, and then at the end they had a monologue by Rex Murphy complaining rather excessively about how protestors are always violent and stupid. Arg. Oh well.
The local news coverage was actually pretty good here in Calgary. Since all the protests were peaceful they had nothing to tell the public about but these very strong and creative protests that were happening!
