What the fuck is Stoner music ? Cheech and Chong albums ? The Dazed and Confused soundtrack ?
I like to listen to reggae or anything acoustic and melodic when I'm stoned. But some people prefer blaring buttrock, it's all a prefernce. There is no stoner music.

"Stoner rock" is a genre but can include a lot depending on the people listening. There does tend to be common ideas in it but its a bit like "geek rock" i.e. there is no strict definition.
Commonly known as stoner rock are:
Queens Of The Stone Age
Soundgarden
Green Day (to some extent)
The Datsuns (to some extent)
A lot of psychadelia
I myself would probably put on some Vaselines or Blood Sugar Sex Magik by RHCP if I ever get stoned. Its a hard to describe genre. I could easily see some classical music as stoner music.

Most stoners I know say stoner music is like chill out kinda music. Like music you can listen to and not think too hard about. Mellow, soft, and... stoner-like.
I prefer hard stuff for being stoned. Makes me think I'm getting lost in the music. Consumed by it almost. Like you are in the music.
But honestly, when it comes donw to it, it makes fuck all of a difference to me really.

Have you ever actually been stoned? Or even tried a little dope? Clearly not, I've never been stoned but just a little bit of weed is goooooooood. And way before I'd tried weed I adored plenty of "stoner bands"...And its true that what's counted as a soner band varies from person to person. So, by saying all stoner bands are boring, therefore you think all music is boring. Dumbass.
I know some trippy bands as well!
Jimi Hendrix Experience

You ever get around to listening to some prog, idiot? Or wasn't it you who vehemently argued with me against progressive rock?
"Stoner rock" is probably one the worst and most useless attempts at categorizing music. I've heard people say that anything from Led Zeppelin to Cake is stoner music. So that term does absolutely nothing to help define a style.
The Forum Idiot
24th December 2004, 13:18
Everything can be categorized as stoner music and in the same way everything can not be stoner music...Its hard to explain what I'm trying to say...To you listening to prog could be considered stoner music while with me it could be The Vaselines...However, a genre under that name has evolved called stoner rock which is mainly QOTSA/Soundgarden style music along with other stuff...Its a bit like how plenty of heavy metal isn't actually that heavy....
And I'm sorry for ranting on about the prog stuff...I was talking out of my ass and had been misguided by certain sources...No I have not listened to any prog really (well...I remember someone saying Frank Zappa and QOTSA are prog and I've listened to lots of QOTSA and a little Zappa) but am willing to try it (but there's none around so meh - except one CD of my pa's (Pink Floyd) if that counts).

Some stoner rock bands I know of (Some already mentioned, but WTF):
QOTSA
Smashing Pumpkins (Earlier stuff, at least)
Sublime
Pink Floyd
Frank Zappa
Hendrix, to an extent
Fuck, even The Beatles would qualify as 'Stoner Rock'.

To call it stoner music gives only a bad picture it's called Psychedelic music or Acid music. It's not about being stones, it's simply about the experience as something above all rules of nature, it's about excess of a minds creation and art piece in front of your eyes. I myself listen to psychedelic rock from 60's and 70's and those are the times when most of the music had lyrics of psychedelia.
Another band from that area would be Jefferson Airplane. I mean look at Woodstock, it's rock n roll history but psychedelic, the whole 60's area was psychedelic and inspired music. From inspiration to inspiration there's even psychedelic art. It's telling the same experience as the music does except visually.

Acid and Stoner are very different. The drugs they are associated with are VERY different. Queens Of The Stone Age and Soundgarden are not in any way psychadelic. A trip-head could like them and listen to them but as far as generally accepted genres go the two are very different.

as an african-american the word "wigger" means to me someone that is pushing the sterotype of blacks. it does not make them black it makes them funny. what i cant stand is when you see a group of wiggers that dont even have any black friends. But yet the whole "wigger" problem is only really a white people problem. black people could care less if some white boy talks like me or dresses like me yet raps like ever CD he owns.

Excuse me everyone, but I always thought "stoner rock" was Black Sabbath, Queens Of The Stone Age and such bands.
Go here (http://www.progarchives.com/) and download some songs by bands such as King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Genesis, Camel, Gentle Giant, Can, Jethro Tull, Anglagard and Caravan (you could also download something from Emerson, Lake & Palmer but it's a very "hit or miss" band so it might give you a bad impression of prog rock). That will give you an idea.
If you want to check out Pink Floyd, be careful. Try Dark Side..., Animals, Meddle, The Wall, Wish You Were Here and Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, in that order.
Cliched wank-prog is not about art, it's about being too out-of-it to construct a real and challenging, or at least exciting, situation.

I find the chill some soft Tool, with a bit of Clutch, or Pink Floyd, The Doors are also a nice listen. I feel getting stoned makes me really feel the music, which obviously makes me more intune with the artist. This leads to the casual techno song with perfectly placed beats.

Not only do I have all their albums (8 including the new box set) but about 8 or 9 bootlegs (about half of which I downloaded from places like nirva.nu). I also only need Pod by the Breeders to have the set of...err...3 CDs...and I have it on tape anyway. Hmm...and the Vaselines (1 CD comprising all their released music...Got it for like £8.99)

I disagree, the Grateful Dead (who could be the best band of all time) are the zenith of stoner/acid rock. They were notorious for smoking pot and very much involved in the acid scene. They are key when talking about stoner/acid rock.

The Grateful Dead are associated more with marijuana than the bands your talking about. Granted I dont listen to the radio much, but they are the headlining drug band.
Also when I get baked I would hate to think of the power chords droning on in background. As I said I dont listen to the radio much, but from what I can remember Green Day is just a power chord band embraced by the MTV following crowd.
