A Charley Chaplin comdey film that came to theaters in 1940, its a scorching satire of Hitler's Germany as one of the first "talkies". Many funny scenes including the speach of the 'Soldiers of Henkel" or the fascist food fight!

Anyone else seen this classic?

I haven't seen that one, but I agree that Chaplin is all about the social and political commentary. East Street and The Immigrant are full of that stuff.

I have seen it, I like it a lot. Especially his imitation of Hitler, the nazi top, party and german language.

Charley Chaplin is a talented director and just a brilliant actor. I'm a great fan of his work and this is my favourite of his movies, even though it might seem a little too "harmless" from a modern perspective (remember this movie was made way before the invasion of poland when the general public in america had very little knowledge of what was going on in Germany and the true horrors of the holocaust).
Did you know that the british government considered banning the movie before the war started, and in America many cinemas refused to show it because it seemed to threaten the USA's "good relationships" with Germany?
