Bloc Party are a bit similar to Franz Ferdinand, but have better tunes. Does anyone know what their politics are? I'm thinking that they're Marxist-Leninist or Stalinist

I just read an article on them in the guide. Got no idea of their specific politics though, they're songs appparently aren't that political.

I have no idea of their politics. Just cos they are called Bloc Party doesnt mean they are leftist though. They could just be being ironic, an exclusive group who can party and no one else can join unless they think the same or something I dont know.

Speaking of, has anyone noticed the amount of Communist themed propagnda in the Franz Ferdinand video ? There's all kinds of Russian style writing, and there is Hammer and Sickles everywhere but the hammer is seperate from the sickle.

One of them said in an interview in NME that they've got a hammer and sickle badge, so that might suggest something

No Franz is not socialist. In an interview they stated that their music was "without a message". And they life the bourgeoisie lifestyle.

And simply assuming that someone is Marxist (Leninist), because they use the word block is ridicul. Even if this had any ground, anarchists would be more likely. It's as ridiculous as claiming that 25% of the youth is stalinist, because they wear che shirts.

Well....Franz always seemed left wing to me and I reckon they were making a lot of stuff up in that interview - they started as purely just a college art-rock band. But meh, I agree with the Bloc Party statement though. They seem left wingish but I could be wrong.

Franz Ferdinand doesn't seem like they have any real political views at all.

Bloc Party's lead singer said that at a dinner party he'd have Mark Thomas as a guest. Maybe that says something

God I love Bloc Party. They are going to be the best band of 2005.

They're not particularly political, but neither are Franz- they made 'music for girls to dance to', for God's sake.

And just because someone lives a bloody bougouise lifestyle doesn't mean they can't be left wing. How can't you be if you live in a capitalist society?

Bloc Party are brilliant, but I doubt they are lefties, same with Franz.
