I enjoyed this book it was amusing, and certainly gives a clear picture of the right wing biased media that the American people are subjected to.

It certainly wasn't the most powerfull or well written book I've ever read, but it serves a pupose to point out the blatant lies told by the right wing politicians and their embedded journalists. I think he should publish a new version every couple of years to inform the public of the lies there being fed.

Has anyone else read it? What did you think?

I haven't read it. I would very much like to.

I have read his latest book "Why Not Me: The Making and Unmaking of the Franken Presidency". Quite funny stuff, attacking the right wing and campaigning in the U.S.

I have a bit of a soft spot for Franken; even though he's a filthy, bourgeois liberal :)

ive read, or should i say, am currently reading this

it is good, although, as you say not the best written

the only problem i have is, not coming from america, it does tend to lose me a little when he talks about people i havent even heard of in american media

but a good book for finding out just how full of shit they are and how blatent they are with it

Well I had cable television for ten years ( I don't anymore), and in Canada Cable is a synonym for American TV. So I was familiar with everyone he beat up on it was fun.

You know they murdered x, I have the whole thing read by Al on audio book, so if you want I could send it to you, it's 432 MB unzipped, so send me a Pm or wehatever, and I'll try and figure out the most expedient way to send it,

Which with my 56.6 modem is probably burn it and mail it.

That goes for anyone interested, I have no blank discs now but hope to get some for christmas. And i can be reached on msn messenger most of the time.

I love Al "Franklin"! haha, this book was freakin hilarious, I was literally laughing out loud and people thought I was a weirdo :P My favorite part was his vietnam story. And how he talked so much shit on Bill "O'Lieley".

I initially started reading this to get some sources for a research paper I had to write in English (on conservative bias in the media). Needless to say, it was not very helpfull (and if I would've cited it as one of my sources my teacher probably would've failed me anyways). Entertaining for sure though!

Me too.
I don't think that Why not me? is his latest. I believe Lies is.
Also, Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot is one of the best by Franken, I think.

Yeah, I too like Al Franken. Though I wish he had never joined SNL as a cast member, he should have stuck with writing.

"Back in the 70's at SNL, I used to do coke to stay awake so I could keep everyone else from doing too much coke".

Franken was a writer for SNL for a long time before he actually did some cast appearances as Stuart Smalley and "Daily Affirmations" which was actually quite funny.

Yeah yeah, that's what I meant. He was a brilliant writer, but he stunk it up as a cast member.

And I fucking hated Stuart Smalley.

He actually did the guy with incredibly long nose hairs back in the 70s or 80s, I believe...

Stuart Smalley was sheer genius.

I particulairly enjoyed the pummeling he gave Anne Coulter in the book. What a liar she is. Have any of you tried to read any of her books?

Please don't use that word. Thanks

Stuart Smalley was sheer genius.

Ugggh, are you fucking kidding ? Genius ? To think it was mildly amusing is one thing, to call it genius is a crime against comedy.

Franken SUCKED as a cast member on SNL. He's not a stand up comic, he's not a preformer, he's a writer.

I found the book incredibaly petty after awhile, even though there was a leftist point about the part of the Indian boy working in a sweatshop.....I didn't like the book anyhow, the American right wing are assholes, but Al just overdoes it.
