Dimebag Darrell, guitarist for Pantera and Damage Plan, was one of at least four people fatally wounded during a bizarre shooting at a concert in Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday night.

Not that I do not have respect for the dead, and some of you might immediately find this as an absurd comment, however, I can not resist. 19,000 children die of starvation every day in Africa. It is sad considering we have lost an artist which may contribute some to the western society, however compare it to the worldwide loss of life we see every day, this deserves like 0,000001% of the media coverage. Yet it get's a lot more. The fact that it is like that in such a place as this too, surprises me.

it is different when it is a music artist, as he maybe had an impact on your life, and the person's music makes you feel a certain way only that person's music can do, and when he disappears it becomes more personal. its like a very thin form of fatherhood.

Well, shit. I'd just been getting into Pantera...I hate it when shit like this happens...Fucking whacko was probably just like the guy who killed Lennon. I hate all death and everything but its particularly sad when someone from a decent band is killed...Pantera were never an asshole band and they are really cool....

On the subject of the dying children...Remember that bands can help kids....I dunno if Pantera ever did donate money (like some bands do) but all they'd need to say at a big concert is "We'd like to dedicate this gig to the dying kids in Africa" and I bet plenty of people will donate something. The one with charisma (note: NOT control) dying is a sad death. I'm gonna record a home-made (re-written chords and all) version of a Pantera song to him...I know he didn't write the song probably and I can't do his guitar but still...

Not so. I wouldn't be very sad if any of the Panzerfaust lads (http://www.che-lives.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=30611) croaked it.

Rest In Peace Dimebag Darrell.

No, they were not. G'n'R were assholes, Metallica have become assholes, Bon Jovi are assholes. Pantera are not.

And I guess the "sad musician dying" thing was a bit of a mis-statement....I meant any musicians who weren't evil.

This isn't about politics. It's about someone who died doing something they loved, which is making music and jamming out on a guitar. The guy contributed a lot to the music world, whether you liked the kind of music he played or not. As for myself, this really hit me hard especially since I was once a very big Pantera fan back in the day. Dimebag was very talented, unlike all these other musicians and bands out there who don't play any leads in there music. I wouldn't exactly put him up there with Jimi Hendrix, but he could bust out leads like no other, I swear. If you've ever seen him play live then you would know what I mean.

Pantera as a band aren't a bunch of asshole. Phil Anselmo, the lead singer, definatley is an asshole though. What pissed me off is how he tried blaming Dime and Vinnie Paul for Pantera breaking up, which in reality he was the one saying he would never go back and all this other crap.

Dimebag was awesome. Just about everyone I know who met Dimebag while he was alive said he was a really nice, down to earth person.

Halford as in Rob Halford from Judas Priest?

ive been listening to pantera since i was a kid so i was fucking sad as hell when i get to jfk to visit my folks for the holidays and my dad dropped the news on me. thats a shitty way to die- getting shot by a psycho who thinks you broke up the band when the truth is that another member who is extremely addicted to heroin broke up the band because he couldnt get his shit together. this whole thing shows you how damn crazy people can be when they obsess over other people and base their whole lives around them....

but anyways, yeah, they were sort of assholes, but they could also be really cool people. my brother got to meet some of them (he gets to meet everyone...) and they were so nice and just funny people. they just wanted to have a good time. the only sad thing was phils addiction- my bro said that phil was so out of it that it was sort of pathetic.

now i hope the same thing doesnt happen like when cobain died- that all these people who didnt listen to them all of the sudden act like its their favorite band and that they're all devastated and start acting like assholes. i hate that shit. i loved nirvana and had been listening to them for years. i remember when cobain died i was so upset and couldnt keep from crying and people made fun of me. then all of the sudden they thought he was the coolest shit because he was getting so much media attention and was made the symbol for gen x (even though this happened before his death). it was sickening.

I didn't get into Nirvana till a couple of years ago (gimme a break - I was 6 months when Nevermind was released) and they've been really important to me...I've read both his suicide note and Heavier Than Heaven and almost cried at both...I doubt the same'll happen because I don't think Pantera are as easy to exploit as Nirvana, it wasn't really a bitter way of self-destruction or live fast die young with Derrell...I hope he gets remember by his fans and if the news does bring in some new fans, as long as they enjoy the music, I think that's cool.
