So as the title suggests, this movie is about a day without a Mexican.
This movie is a comedy slash social satire that attempts to be a sort of eye opener, but the director's attempt to make this somewhat serious, ends up making it seem more of a joke.
This film documents a day in California where all the LATINOS (because on the west coast all hispanics are presumed to be Mexican) mysteriously disappear, leaving nobody to pick fruits and veggies, wash cars, mow loawns, raise rich white peoples' kids, and leaves the Border Patrol with absolutley nothing to do. Not only do all Latinos vanish, but California is left surrounded by a sort of inpenetrable purple haze that makes it impossible for any type of outside contact with the rest of the world (seemingly, this would be more of a concern for us, but is not). Total chaos ensues without us and people begin to realize how much of an asset all latinos are to the fifth largest economy of the world. Even the racists missed their loyal workers!
There is this Armenian woman who throughout the whole film, everybody, including herself, thought she was Mexican (except for me, I knew all along, hehehe). They try to use her as a key to get the "Mexicans" back but it doesn't work. I think they added this in to give the bland move some sort of followable plot, but it's just dumb.
*BEST PART*
So anyways this movie has the fairytale ending we all love to see! "La Migra" detected some activity along the border, goes to see what's up, and sure enough, it's some illegals trying to get across *gasps*. They ask them if they were Mexican, they say "si" (yes) and start cheering like they just won the lottery, (which, in a sense they did). My favorite part was when one of the Mexicans says to the other "The gringos are fuckin' cool!". Fairytale ending indeed.
Has anybody seen this yet? What do you all think?
Even though this movie is like a "one star" (for effort) kind of films, it's still funny, and I recommend you guys check it out. At least you'll be able to laugh your ass off at the numerous stereotypes presented, if anything.
