I recently saw the video for "Hurt", a NIN original covered by the man in black (I wasn't even aware he did this) and I was impressed. Anyone else hear/see this?
Alot of the covers he did later in his career are really good, another example would be "Redemption Songs".

"One" a cover of a U2 song is very good.
Hurt is a great cover by him and the video is quite sad/

Did he do that on his own? I've only heard the duet that he did with Joe Strummer.

not sure about that, celtopunk. I just know he performed the song.

Dislike is probably a bit strong. I just don't think it's great.
I just think that the cover loses a lot of context, from my perspective at least. When listening to 'Hurt', I like to be able to piece it together with the rest of the album, something you can't do because Cash didn't cover the rest of the album.
Secondly, I dislike his changing of the words to "I wear this crown of thorns". It immediately draws comparisons with Jesus and about being crucified and destroyed by other people but 'Hurt' to me is a song about destroying yourself. Just my interpretation and what it means to me. And it's hard to change that.

I like his cover of Hurt. I've got the Downward Spiral, and I really like it, and NIN's original of Hurt, but the cover's got a different atmosphere, more personal, more despairing and broken, and NIN sounds more...depraved I guess.

I think it's the reverse. I feel that it's Cash's voice that makes it sound so broken rather than emotion.

Sorry, that didn't make any sense to me, can you explain?
