Anyone else here listen to Dead Prez? Any favorite songs?

A comrade used to play Dead Prez sometimes while I was cooking Food Not Boms at his house, but I never really caught any of the song titles . . .

If it counts for anything, I think the track they do with Paris, "Freedom," is awsome.

Dead Prez is very good. I don't really have a favorite song, I like them all pretty much. You should look in to Immortal Technique (http://www.immortal-technique.com). Mr. Lif has some socially aware songs. These are newer ones, in comparison to Public Enemy. I would Talib Kweli has some good ones as well as Mos Def. Check them out ;)

Yeah, I've got to admit that did dig into me a little when I heard that.

I guess if I was gonna be a reactionary as them I'd bring up the example of the Zulus.

When the British ran into them, they were doing the exact same thing: destroying other cultures, pillaging and whatnot.

However when it comes to being labelled "the white man" my arguement is always that just because you ara "a white man" doesn't mean you are "the white man". My ancestors were mostly poor europeans being fucked over left, right, and center, so "the white man" is my historical enemy too. Even if Dead Prez deosn't look at it that way. ;)

That just shows that it is a human thing not a black/white/brown thing. Assholes are assholes and they are available in all varieties.

I'm also not bothered by that quotation. While I may be caucasian I would never classify meself as "white".

The thing about the Zulus is that even though they were quite brutal they did represent resistance to the British imperialism. Shaka Zulu (who is mentioned in a couple of DPZ songs) united all the Zulu tribes and in fact managed to defeat the British (i forget the name of the battle, anyone know?). Its true that Zulus were also quite brutal, but they're more of a simbol, a simbol of Black unity and resistance, that's wot i think anyway.

Dead Prez's occational racist comments are justifiable in my opinion; the white man did (and is doing) a lot of fucked up shit, a lot more shit than Shaka Zulu ever did.

ANYWAY i can't wait for DPZ concert this weekend!!! My pics are comming NoiseUnited, ill try to get up close to take some v. good pics! ;)

Well i can't post up any pics cause my digicam got fuked!

But let me tell ya'll that the Dead Prez concert on the 12th december at Geneva's Le Kab (http://www.lekab.ch), was totaly insane!

They had an Intro by Timbo King (from Wu Tang Clan - Killa Beez). Then Dead Prez came (Stic.man missing unfortunately) and M-1 and some fellas started raping and smoking ganj.

Among others, the sang, "Fuck the Law", "W-4", "It's bigger than Hip Hop", "They Schools", and "We need a revolution".

It was great, at the end of the night, the whole place was hot-boxed by all the people burning weed. And M-1 was very impressed that he could smoke on stage and not get took to jail.

Dead Prez concerts are THE BEST!!!
