I take sick pride in making mix CDs + Artwork pour my friends - just curious if anyone else had a similar fixation, and/or if people were interested in exchanging. In any case, my latest creation:

And, yes, the friend I made it for REALLY was in Asia.

The art is great.
I don't really like hardcore, however.
And no, I don't make mix CDs for my friends.
I have an ample music collection, from which my friends borrow music constantly to rip onto their computers and enjoy at the crummiest sound quality through fucking shitass eMachine speakers.

i love making mix tapes and cds, though i dont quite go into the detail you do. but i can say, and to my dismay, i've spent several hours just picking songs and recording them onto a tape, unsatified with it, erase then start over. (life anyone?)

Haha, oh, RedZepplin . . . there's only two hardcore songs on that entire mix: the Neos' "Fascist Rule" and the RAMBO track. The rest runs the gamut from hip-hop (Paris) through electroclash (Le Tigre) and garage-rock (T(I)NC), though I admit that punk of various sorts is slightly over-represented.
2
Celtopunk, even if nobody else is up for a swap, I am. I fucking LOVE the Newtown Neurotics, and there's lots of interesting-sounding stuff on both of those tapes that I've never heard of ("Striknien DC"?).

I always thought that T(I)NC was hardcore...
And I actually would like to listen to that. I'd like to get to know some of that music better. I developed some animosity against punk and hardcore and garage music from the crap I heard from my local music scene, but lately I see that it's no so bad...

Cool!
Striknien DC was/is? an Irish punk band fronted by the former lead singer of Paranoid Visions. And yeah we can do a trade.
El Infiltr(A)do was wondering about the Attaque 77 song. I must confess I don't understand most of the lyrics. I like that song because it reminds me of a Ramones song. If you go to Babel Fish the translation is "there's a pump in the school" or something like that.
Victor are you finally coming around? I could send you one or two comps if you are interested. I really think you might enjoy at least some of this music.

By the way, I'm a bit more interested in punk. Hardcore? Meh, maybe later.

Yeah you can download a comp from me. Do you use soulseek?
And don't worry about the hardcore, I'm not much of a harcore fan anyway.
Are there any bands that you know of that you would not want to hear from?

I know I may have said I liked the Sex Pistols, but I take that back. I have no idea what I heard to make me say that. Them and the Ramones I don't really like, but maybe there's something really great by them you think I'd like. Send me anything. I'll judge it with an open mind. :)

Give him the Clash's London Calling album, that way we can trick him into thinking ALL punk sounds that good and diverse.

London Calling really is a great album.
And I do remeber you saying you liked te Sex Pistols because I called you out on that one. I like the Pistols but they would be far from the top of my list, same goes for the Ramones. Either way I wasn't planning on putting either.
It won't all be straight ahead punk either and You likely won't be familiar with most of the bands/artists. I'm going to start coming up with a track list.
Now how shall I get te final product to you? Do you have high speed connection? Do you use Soulseek it is a great sharing program and I could give you my handle and you could just download it from me that way.

Actually I do know what's about: it means "there's a bomb in the school", and it's about a couple that pretends that so that they can fuck at the school but they get cuaght, or something like that. Interesting lyrics, boring music, I'd say. I was just shocked at seeing that band mentioned here.

The only punk I've actually heard and liked is Pere Ubu and Television. And I like them a lot, if that's any help. But they're also not straight up punk, are they?
I have a cable connection. It's pretty fast.
And I can get soulseek, easily.

I'm not really into that whole hardcore punk scence, fugazi and minor threat are amazing though.

Erm....I made a couple love song compilations for a girl I used to fancy....nowadays I recently put together a Metal Mix CD but have yet to burn it. If anyone can make me a cover (pretty please?) I would love them. Ya can even think of your own title. Apart from that I tend to just build up a collection of random songs, mainly stuff by artists or albums where I only like 1 or 2 songs (like Eagles, Guns'n'Roses, Staind, etc)...Once I have volume 5 finished I'm gonna make a best of them.
Anyways, here's my metal mix list, and before anyone points out some songs aren't metal I have had numerous debates - G'n'R/Aerosmith are metal of the hair kinds, I consider AC/DC metal and Led Zep have honourary mentions because of their importance in Metals' evolution. Also I don't really like Slipknot, just Duality
1)Iron Maiden - Number Of The Beast
2)AC/DC - Back In Black
3)Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water
4)Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
5)Metallica - Enter Sandman
6)Megadeth - Use The Man
7)Slipknot - Duality
8)Motorhead - Ace Of Spades
9)Led Zeppelin - Immigrant Song
10)Aerosmith - Sweet Emotion
11)Anthrax - Antisocial
12)Black Sabbath - Paranoid
13)Megadeth - Tout Le Monde
14)Metallica - One
15)Pantera - Cemetary Gates
16)Guns N' Roses - Paradise City (Live)

If you are going to include Metallica why not something from their earlier days?

Well, its my opinion and I like those songs. I don't exactly like much else G'N'R (a couple songs but not much else) or Aerosmith (they're a good cheer-up band though) and One is my favourite Metallica song....I've never actually heard any Metallica before 1988 (the album One's from) but would like to. They're my opinions, not yours, so tough shit. My compilation isn't going out and beating you with a sock full of quarters is it? Thought as much. Also, Paradise City live is brilliant, so fuck you hard on that one.

There's some good tracks on that comp. I love The Neurotics, my favourite by them is "This Fragile Life".
I see you have the Redskins on there a few times. I don't suppose you know the lyrics for "The Peasant Army" do you? I've tried to work them out but haven't had much luck. I think Chris Dean was doing his Hugh Cornwell impression on that recording.

They aren't supposed to necessarily be the best in some cases, just the iconic ones. I am not a serious Whole Lotta Love fan but Immigrant Song is my fave Led Zep. It is supposed to be a very 80s compilation so I figured not many of you would like it. But I do, its my compilation and its not my problem if you think its shit.

My plans for the cover fell through. It was going to be a picture of Colin Powell dancing in a contruction outfit with him dancing on skulls and bones. Unfortunately the picture ( a real one from when he performed YMCA without the bones ) isn't of high enough quality. When you print it at least on my printer you wouldn't know who it was.
Anyway, set yourself up a soulseek account and ad me stortebecker to your user list and then look for the Victor mix folder and hopefully enjoy. Now rememeber, this is mainly punk so do not expect expert musicianship throughout but do expect some rocking tunes with great lyrics.
It is available for anyone else that wishes to download it too.

Right click and choose add user, enter stortebecker
Then from the user list right click on strotebecker and choose browse files. I've added you to my list so you can download from me.
I zipped them altogether into one file and it is around 77meg, so I could do the yousendit route, but te soulseek thing should work too.

Not bad...I forgot to post about one I made for a school project.
We were desiging a movie (my group did a Vietnam one called VC) and I decided to make a CD soundtrack of songs from the era (and a couple which weren't but would fit in)
Sadly the back cover didn't come out too well...so I'm redoing it...Anyways, here are the current covers:

Ok, some of them seem too light-hearted for a vietnam movie but that's part of the idea - Its supposed to go a little bit crazy (in the same way AN does) and they all get dehumanized, this is when the "happy" songs like Days, Fire, Army Life, etc come in. Also a lot of others (All stuff by Led Zep, Dead End Street, Helter Skelter, The Boxer) are chosen on how they would sound and fit into certain scenes rather than them being particularly about war of any kind. The G'n'R choice was mainly because it'd be a killer opener: Imagine some new recruits flying into vietnam with copters, maybe even a bit like the bridge sequence from AN, with Welcome To The Jungle pounding in as the opening credits roll...
Anyways, I'm going to work on a completely new back cover...
Shit, well, actually the images still aren't working as Jpeg, Celtopunk: Is there any chance you could put them in your message? I dunno why I'm having such problems...Stupid iMac I guess...

Yeah, I've been listening to your disc lately, as well as the dozens of discs that I got for Christmas. That's why I haven't been able to devote complete attention to your mix and get back to you earlier.
In any case, it was really good!
What stuck out was American Jesus by Bad Religion. Really catchy and super lyrics.
Weatherman '97 is also good. Great horns and really really energetic.
All You Fascist also stuck out largely because of the lyrics. Good tune, as well.
Get up and Fight is also a very good song. Nice riff and good lyrics as well.
Fight Them Back was good...
Adventure Playground is pretty good.
Don't Drag me Down is also a super tune.
Hungry Wolf is great, hardly sounds like punk. =D
Thanks for the mix, CP. I'm definitely gonna look into some of these bands.

I would like to check it out. And I'll post a review of it later.
It would be nice for anyone who wants some compilation to ask for it on this thread too.
The best of Jimi Hendrix's first 3 albums (I just came up with this one):
1. Foxy Lady
2. Manic Depression
3. Red House
4. Can You See Me
5. Love Or Confusion
6. I Don't Live Today
7. Fire
8. Hey Joe
9. Stone Free
10. Purple Haze
11. The Wind Cries Mary
12. Highway Chile
13. Spanish Castle Magic
14. Ain't No Telling
15. Little Wing
16. Castles Made Of Sand
17. She's So Fine
18. One Rainy Wish
19. Little Miss Lover
20. Bold As Love
21. Crosstown Traffic
22. Come On, Pt. 1
23. All Along The Watchtower
24. Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
I don't have all the other albums but I do have a 4 CD box on my HD. There are some good songs there but I'm not sure if they are better than this. Maybe I should do another compilation with them. Anyway, this album fits in an 80 minutes CD.

I'm having upload issues right now, I will have to try again later. Watch this space

And Victor what can I say?? I'm glad you like the selection. Some of the stuff could be difficult to get a hold of, legit copies that is. Stuff like the Neurotics, Paranoid Visions, Redskins are difficult to find in the US. But the Bad Religion, Social Distortion, X and the Adjusters should be easy to locate. Let me know if you have any trouble finding anything. I have legit copies of all of it.

I've listened to it, and it was lots of fun, and there were many good songs in there. My favourite is "All You Fascists", so I'll check out Billy Bragg's stuff. Most songs are average but they are nice. They only one I knew was American Jesus which is good and catchy, and so are tracks 1, 2 (I loved this one, a nice surprise), 4, 5, 12, 16, 18, 20, 21 and 22 (this last 2 tracks were pretty good too). The rest are weaker but still mostly fun. The worst song for my tastes is Iron Lady. I will give it another listen later.
Thanks celtopunk for uploading it!

I'm glad you enjoy it too El Infiltr(A)do.
I should say that the Billy Bragg cut is actually a cover of a Woody Guthrie song, not all of his music sounds like that either, but he is a great songwriter, he just tends to be folkier. He was asked by Woody's daughter to record several songs that Woody had written but never recorded and I believe he had only written the lyrics, so Billy had to come up with tunes for the lyrics not an easy task especially when you consider who's songs they were. He recorded them with Wilco as his backing band. He's a great performer if you get the chance to see him do it. I saw him on his own. It was just he and his guitar. Half the show was with an acoustic the other half with an electric, fantastic!!
Now on to the "Iron Lady" song. I personally love it. The Iron Lady is Margaret Thatcher former PM of Britain (think a female Ronald Reagan or George W Bush if you don't know who she is). She was nearly blown up at a Tory conference in Brighton, hence the line "maybe we'll use a little more dynamite next time."

Officially speaking, yes the Ramones are punk but I a) don't consider them punk since they were right wing and trying to cash in on the British punk's successfulness and b) I really dislike them. I recommend the Dead Kennedys if you want American punk.

Ramones were pop punk but not mainstream pop punk if that makes any sense. I wouldn't consider them right wing either. Johhny Ramone was but not the rest of the band. Their music was mostly apolitical with a few exceptions one being "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg". It was a song about Reagan going to Nazi graves in Germany, not Nazi victims but nazi soldier graves.

77 megs of kick ass punk, just ask Victor. It tends to lean towards the political, but still tuneful (unlike CRASS). However if you don't have a fast connection it will take you a bit to down load it. Yes, I'm VERY interested! I need to hear more folk music...my current list of folk I listen to is Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg and Simon And Garfunkel. And none of those are particularly "traditional" folk and mix in many influences, oh, and I listen to Leadbelly which was a blend of folk and blues. Also, if Steve Earle counts then he's cool. (I have his latest album which has many political songs if you want me to send so you can use in your mix).
On The Ramones subject, I don't want to get into a fight about it, I'm simply trusting what the authors of "The Boy Looked At Johnny" said. And I've never heard any Ramones which made me wanna get up and go on my guitar like almost every other punk band does to me.
Oh, and here's the covers for my "Best Of Nirvana Unplugged" CD. If you have the recent box set and the MTV Unplugged CD I reccomend you make something similar...

No, I mean it's ok, it's just that many tracks don't really impress me. Your previous one was more entertaining and most tracks were a bit better than those on the folk mix. Still, I have to listen to it again.

I'm kind of curious, how do Rat and Winger qualify as greatest of all time?
Yeah, no kidding.
Big Don, those bands suck pretty hard.
Instead of ripping on the dreadful hair metal, though, I'm gonna to say that The Ramones is the worst band on that list. :P

At that rate it should only take about 10 hours to get all 22. Let me know if you want me to make more available
Now, are you serious?Only 10 hours? How am i going to wait for 10 hours for the songs when I'm only allowed to spend 2 hours everyday on-line?No, wrong. It's not that i'm not allowed, the thing is that 10hours on-line=50euro!My dad's gonna kill me!
Ten hours was based on the fact that it took 30 min to download one song. There are 22 in all, so I just figured 10 hours or so that way.
If you are paying 50 euro for 10 hours that sounds pretty steep. So it cost you around 2.5 euro to download the one song then?
If you want to send me a provate message, I could probably snail mail it to you one of these days. And save you a lot of dough.

About that guy's list: We're all entitled to our opinions, if you think his stuff is shit that's ok, but being mean to him about it is serious elitism.

It is all in good fun really. RZ dissed the Ramones, I like them but I can understand why they don't appeal to some people. But shit, Winger?!?!?!?!?

I really dislike the ramones! They suck! Nyah!
Hmm...it just seemed like you were being a little too vindictive of his opinions...
Anyways, yea, groovy.

There's one thing I've learned and that is if you are going to post here sooner or later someone is going to yank your chain. I don't think most of us mean anything by it just good natured ribbing mostly, except for my comments about Winger.
I can only think of maybe two people that I have really considered assholes on this board and I don't remember who they were anymore. Hopefully only a few people have thought of me in the same way but if not so be it.
Music is a passion for some people and those people will discuss it with a lot of passion.

I've thought of you (RedZep) an asshole! But I'm damn well sure you thought the same about me. But its in the past and we've both grown up a little so yay!
Oh also, Celtopunk, I tried sending you those MP3s but it failed...I can try doing it through YouSendIt with the seperate mp3s I guess...

0_0 creepy.
Also, I'd like to mention what Celtopunk said about passion for music - I am very passionate about music, damn it I practically consider it a life style which is one reason I don't go on at people for the music they like (except Busted, McFly and Good Charlotte, understandably).

A few of those bands aren't entirely bad... Queen and ZZ Top are great.
AC/DC isn't so terrible. Rush is pretty good too.
The rest suck.
I think RedZep grows on one like a not-completely-unpleasant mold.
That's the greatest thing anyone's ever said to me.

No way, the following bands certainly do not suck: -
AC/DC
Aerosmith
Alice in Chains
Iron Maiden
Rush
Soundgarden
Stone Temple Pilots
Van Halen
Stone Roses
Sure some of them aren't fantastic, but they don't suck, they are tolerable, hell even quite good.Indeed I am proud to say I have Soundgarden and Aerosmith in my music collection.

I don't like metal.
Nor do I like grunge.
Van Halen is occasionally tolerable.
Aerosmith indeed has a few good songs.
But generaly speaking, are not a good band.

I like a what I've heard of Aerosmith but I'm not exactly rushing out to by their CDs.
In so far as the others go I like most of the ones Enigma quoted except Rush, Van Halen and the Stone Roses. I haven't really heard Stone Roses so I don't exactly dislike them, but I can't like what I haven't heard. What I've heard of Rush is shit and I hate Van Halen because he is a motherfucking bastard. And Rush are evil. But yea the rest are cool, I like Iron Maiden a lot. \m/

Van Halen are the epitome of "cock rock".
And although I don't like the Offspring, I'd take them over Beatle wannabes like Oasis.
The Forum Idiot
23rd January 2005, 13:50
You know Oasis don't actually even sound much like The Beatles? And the Offspring comment is debateable. I personally think that Americana is just below the likes of Definately Maybe and Morning Glory. I used to love all 3 though...still like 'em but just don't listen to them.

By what definition, Eddie Van halen is arguably one of the best guitarists in Rock history.

Yeah, he's a talented guitarist, but that doesn't necessarily make Van Halen a good band. Slash is technically a great guitarist, but Guns n' Roses still sucked a lot, innit?

I had a mix cd (I say had because it got scratched to fuck; stupid brother) that had a wide variety of stuff. it had classic metal (Megadeth, Metallica) Classic rock (the Beattles), Classical (Wagner, Holst), Alternative (Incubus), Hardcore Death Metal (Nile), Industrial (Fear Factory) and Techno/ambient (Green Velvet). I was pretty pleased with it.

I actually don't mind some GnR, sure a lot of it was shit but Sweet Child o mine was good.
But I like a lot of stuff RZ ranging from indie rock to Thrash metal. But I'll take Thin Lizzy or Led Zeppelin over Van Halen any day.
Interesting when I look at my most played tracks according to Winamp Highest is the Levellers "Sellout" with 65 plays, second is Thin Lizzy "Emerald" with 58 plays and third is Yngwie Malmsteen. I also have, Tool, The Manics (obviously), The Smiths, The Beatles and Smashing Pumpkins and NIN in my top 15 along with a few other bands. I didn't think it would be like that, I thought it would be Manics dominated along with The rollingstones who shockingly weren't in the top 20  .
I bet I left Yngwie Malmsteen on repeat by accident for hours, he's great but no way a worthy number three.

I once constantly listened to that song on the end of Donnie Darko "Mad World". I mean, constantly. I think it got to like 300 plays or something.
