I was watching TV the other day and they were talking about biodegradable cell phones. You finish using the phone and you can burry it in the dirt, and I am pretty sure I heard them say the phone has seeds in it or something.

If that works out, its pretty cool.
Has anyone else heard about that?
I think this was in England.

They have also developed CD's made out of potato starch! They still have a way to go though, as they found the disks had a tendency to spontaneously combust when played!

envioronment as it is? Biodegradable celluar phones do sound benificial to

if dat was possible it would greatly benefit the environment....

but maybe you might many cell phones out on the street since people would say dat they were biodegradable..

...so it people might just throw them out of their car window, and onto the freeway...just like all the other trash...

...but it might work...we'll have to wait and see...

I've heard nothing at all about biodegradable cell phones already existing. They are yet to be invented.

Perhaps it's still in development..

It'd be good but on the other hand,we'll start to see more waste produced.Besides, the phone won't last long.

Living flowers sprout from discarded cell phone covers

REUTERS

LONDON -- A rose is a rose is a phone? British scientists seeking to protect the environment have designed a biodegradable cellular phone cover that breaks down in soil when discarded and sprouts a flower from a seed embedded inside the case.

Researchers at the University of Warwick in central England said the novel device, made from a specially designed polymer, is a boon for the environmentally sensitive.

Millions of cell phones are thrown away every year as the industry churns out new models.

"It's a real novelty in the phone industry and consumers are happy because they feel they are doing something for the local environment," said Kerry Kirwan from the University of Warwick.

Designers have reassured the wary user that the seed, implanted in a tiny transparent window, only germinates when the phone cover is discarded.

"We put sunflower seeds into the prototype covers, but we are working with horticultural researchers to identify which other flowers would perform best. Maybe we could put poppies or roses next time," Kirwan added.

He said he hoped the covers would hit the market next year, but did not say how much they might cost.

I recently remember reading an article about Landmines that would biodegrade over a few years. Also flowers that you could plant in large patches (throwing seeds everywhere) and by the color of their petals you could tell if a landmine was below them.

These cellphones not only having seeds in them for Sunflowers, but the material isn't just biodegradable it feeds the sunflowers. Okay, so if we controlled the means of production and this invention came out, we would all vote on a law that says anything that can be made out of this should.

Saldy since industry and representation are one and the same, a shadow for the other, that will never happen. Maybe a law to take effect in 2025 requiring producers to use 30% of material as this. They will never pay the costs of converting their manufacturing plants to this new material, or they will focre the tax payers to foot the bill for renovations.

Science it is amazing.
