Garmin and Magellan are the two that I use. Good user interface, fast satellite acquisition, cheap. Either should suit your purposes.

Depending on what you plan on doing with them, you may want to consider the units with some cartography included in them.

I use the Garmin Geko301. No cartography but very small, fits easily into the pocket, weighs less than 100g, waterproof, fast aquisition, lots of functions and is WAAS/EGNOS enabled. Good if you need a device that you can always carry around with you. Of course, if you need any special functionality (like for nautical or aeronautical navigation) you need to look for something else.
