The USA gov't, especially the FBI and the CIA's puppets, the ultra-right wing Cuban exiles, were involved/funded the secret police in PR (The Police Intelligent Unit) until 1987, when it was destroyed by the PR Supreme Court. The biggest case in the list, are those who were murdered in Cerro Maravilla. As the evidence was compiled through the decades, it showed that the murder of these two kids were from orders high up, from San Juan and to the helping of the cover up in Washington D.C. On another note, blacklisting and other forms of political persecution is still very common in Puerto Rico.

The socialist movement in Puerto Rico is not that huge and powerful in the sense of it's government control. There are, however, many socialists and leftists in the ruling and very popular/powerful Popular Democratic Party, (Including Senate President, Antonio Fas Alzamora and House President, Carlos Vizcarrondo. The Governor, Sila María Calderón is a Social Democrat, but not a good one at that. lol!) *but they sometimes hide their leftist sides due to the parties stance on the commonwealth...i.e. colonial status.

The hardcore socialists/communists are pro-independence, and the third largest political party in PR, the Puerto Rican Independence Party, leader, Rubén Berríos, was a former president of Socialist International.
