Well, I'm skinny (some people see this as a good thing), but I'm not on any kind of diet, and according to a fat index, I'm on the border of being underweight. Now does anyone know if there is a way to figure out whether if you have tapeworms without going to the doctors? Or is this kind skinniness normal?

Does your ass itch? That is one symptom of having worms in the body. Are you skinny despite of eating a lot? DO you notice anything unusual in your body besides being skinny? I have a lot of friends who are skinny but they do eat a lot. I think this has got something to do with the basal metabolic rate of the body. I think they have a rapid BMR that is why they are skinny even if they eat "normally".

My first word of advice, don't ask for medical advice on an internet message board. If you have a concern about your health, be smart and visit a medical doctor.

Sage words, indeed. I very much doubt a suitable prognosis can be conducted over the scores of hops between any prospective doctors who post here and yourself. Go visit your local doctor - that's why they're there, after all.

Theres nothing wrong or stupid about asking for medical advice. As long as you dont blindly follow it. You just read through the suggestions, and then you have an idea of what to think. The logical suggestions are the ones you will notice anyways. In other words, you dont necessarily have to learn anything completely new from asking on the internet. But you might have missed a common sense thing people can help point out to you.
But i wouldnt suggest asking for advice about things you know nothing about, or that are complex.
heres my thoughts:
First of all, if you are a teenagers, its probably nothing to worry about. teenagers go through weird groth spurts that can leave them very skinny for awhile.
Well, answer these questions for a better analysis:
Your age.
Have you recently gotten much skinnier, or have you been underwieght for a long time?
On an average day, describe how much you would eat.
Are you extra active? Especally if you are a runner. runners can be very skinny.
Probably nothing to worry about sense you said you are only on the border of being underwieght.

Actually most aren't there for that, they're there because they needed to choose a career that would sustain life and they happened to have the brains, money for medical school etc, and will power to go ahead and become a doctor so that they would be able to survive more than comfortably from then on.
This isn't to degrade those doctors who truly want to help people... but this is indeed the nature of what capitalism has done to all professions (including what were once the most altruistic).
Besides, there's no telling that a doctor won't be on this board, and at least you know he'd be helping for something other than money.
Edit: I'm sure I'm guilty of making the same claim that "that's what they're there for" but better correcting that blanket statement now than never. In fact, I probably said it once or twice in some of the other "health" threads that have popped up. But I also think I've given there what could be considered sound medical advice.

If you are really concerned but don't want to go to the doctors (I know they make people pay too much) I have heard of people feeding their animals a large amount of tobacco. The tobacco passes through the intestines and will scare any worm that is inside, flushing it out. Tobacco is a well known diurretic (I think that's how you spell it), so eating lots of tobacco may be gross, but it would help if no other solution is possible, like going to the doctors and stuff.

- 18
- I've been skinny for quite a while
- I can't make an accurate assessment of how much I eat, since it's sort of relative. I have no reference.
- I'm not active (quite inactive in fact, that's the strange part)
On the other hand I think I will try the pot and eat some tobacco, if I can confirm that you won't get cancer from doing those, but anyways. (kidding)

I can see the pot working... In fact, I've known many people who have used pot not only to increase appetite but also to settle their stomach in general, I would, however, not condone eating tobacco.
Depending on the type of tobacco it will result in bad things no matter how you do it.... if it's all natural it has larger amounts of tar and nicotine, and if it's not all natural it has things like cyanide and amonia. Chewing tobacco contains fiberglass which will more than likely cut your mouth, throat, and internals and allow the carcinogens to more easily cause you problems. Technically speaking any plant consumed will contain tar, and the digestive process while, certainly able to handle low levels could get seriously harmed by the consumption of something with as much tar as tobacco. Remember that if it's harmful enough to kill something inside you (if that is indeed the case) it's going to be harmful to you aswell, even if the harm is not initially evident.

 No no not the chewing tobacco, that would just straight up kill. Don't ask me I just heard of it being used for dogs back in the day, and possibly humans. But don't do it if the consequence outweighs the benefit. I would check on the net for what I'm trying to say. Maybe it is dangerous to digest it, but hey, at least it's not being smoked eh?
Bah we got so many fucked up things we consume everyday so if I was poor as hell, with not doctor, and had worms, I would probably do it. But again I need to research this stuff. Maybe the drug that doctors use is derived from some plant that is used to treat this problem.

Tape Worms (http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/herbal/msg011901083445.html)
I found this BTW checking out my idea. It's a little blog sorta where people give their ideas for treating tapeworm. It is intended for pets, but I'm quite sure it can be used for humans as well. Eh, not many suggestions for tobacco though ;)
