More and more U.S. soldiers are speaking out against the war in Iraq -- and some are refusing to fight.

After returning home to Pennsylvania, Mike Hoffman founded Iraq Veterans Against the War. "You realize that the people to blame for this are not the ones you are fighting."

When Hoffman arrived in Kuwait in February 2003, his units highest-ranking enlisted man laid out the mission in stark terms. Youre not going to make Iraq safe for democracy, the sergeant said. You are going for one reason alone: oil. But youre still going to go, because you signed a contract. And youre going to go to bring your friends home. Hoffman, who had his own doubts about the war, was relievedhed never expected to hear such a candid assessment from a superior. But it was only when he had been in Iraq for several months that the full meaning of the sergeants words began to sink in.

lmao

Don't worry, Red, if I was a resident apologist for U.S. imperialism on this board, I'd probably want to keep my ego from being bruised by dismissing you as well.

:D

Serious Comments from ST:

This may be the 'first whispers' of an all-out soldier opposition to the war. Next, desertions will become common, then all-out soldier refusals, then soldiers will be killing their officers.

Sounds like good news I hope it escalates into larger scale resistance.

My dick is what you feel every time you clock in at your shit job. It's the corporate dick that slaps you in the face several times a day. [/b]

Are you stupid?

You do realize that your two statements not only lacked humor but also betrayed the utter intellectual and moral bankruptcy of the system you support, correct?

And you do realize that your two angry statements were provoked by a picture custom-made for you after you posted irrelevant non-sense, correct?

I think you need to consider what I said before -- the fact that you are running away from the content of the article by refusing to comment on it.

If the truth of the war did not anger you, then, realistically, you would not have been so hostile.

I guess the "Godless Commies" are playing on your emotions, eh?

Pathetic. Control yourself next time.

And use some caustic wit.

K?

I don't think so.

Don't let you wishes and dreams fool you into believing that this type of thing is wide spread. These are isolated incidents. The vast majority of US forces in the theater are in it to win it, and will fight to the death for the US.

You live in a fantasy world. The average U.S soldier not only doesn't care, he isn't smart enough to care.

They may well be in it to win, but I bet many resent being sent to die for Bush's oil.

It has been the same through history, the foot and line have always know war was started for anything but freedom. But they fight anyway, in most cases... poor stupid bastards.

Exactly.

Correct me if I am wrong, but even Woodrow Wilson stated that the primary reason that the US entered WW1 was to improve business.

A lot have no choice.

A lot have no choice.

Except going AWOL, applying for CO status, killing their officers, etc.

All big movements start off small. And, also, see "may", not "will". We really don't know. Only time will prove one of us right.

i have very little hope in this breed of US soldiers. they would rather compromise their misgivings about the war and die like heroes in the eyes of america than try to resist and die as a coward and a traitor in the eyes of america.
