There is no "meaning of life". We live. We die. We must therefore abandon all notions of pursuing this "meaning", and live the greatest life we can, which could never be possible in such a pursuit.

Wrong, life's purpose is biologically to pass one's self on. Either biologically or through legacy. This explains both lust for sexual behavoir and lust for power. Power creates legacy. Whatever your opinion of Hitler, of Stalin, of Mao, of any world leader or historical figure, they have suceeded in fufilling life's purpose because they passed on their legacy. Their names will be known forever. Humans strive for immortality if not physically.. in terms of their ideas. By achieving historical fame or infame, life's purpose is achieved. A glaring example is set by the Pharoahs and their Pyramids, or Mauselous and his Mauseleum.

The biological purpose is more attainable, and more natural. If you disagree with the above, please feel free to interject, since that is my personal idea. I could be wrong. However the biological purpose is undeniable. We are born, we breed, we die.

So, then, by your definition of the "purpose" of life, from a biological perspective, has a person who chooses not to have children lead an unfulfilled life? What about those unable to have children?

The "immortality" point is totally relative. Very few people try to make themselves 'immortal in history' or whatever the hell you said.

No no. Biologically they have failed at life. But that is life's only real purpose. Everything else is sort of just... wandering about. Most things we do tend to revolve around reproduction though, although subconsciously. The rich man, the musician, the talented man is like the peacock with the biggest and best feathers.

That's definately going in my sig.

I rock.

I suppose it makes evolutionary sense that we instinctually want to reproduce (or at least have sex).

taking my quotes out of context... changing my views. Ah, it seems not much really has changed. But fine. the want to have sex IS the want to reproduce. Even if we don't want to consciously. the reason it gives pleasure is BECAUSE it is something "nature".. or continuity wants us to do. It is for the survival of the species etc.

Come on now. It was clearly a joke.

the want to have sex IS the want to reproduce

Granted. I was attempting to clarify (if only to myself) that one can want to have sex without wanting to reproduce (though, i think that was a bit of a screwup on my part, as i was confusing instinct with conscious desire)

the reason it gives pleasure is BECAUSE it is something "nature".. or continuity wants us to do. It is for the survival of the species etc.

It gives us pleasure because of the stimulation of nerve endings.

Consider masturbating. It's pleasurable, though it doesn't exist to reproduce.

Anyway, humans are so far removed from nature that it really has no bearing on the "meaning of life". As animals, the meaning of life is to reproduce. We are, though, civilized, and therefore not animals.

I said subconcsiously clearly enough, didn't i? Just because i do not want to end up a father in my head doesn't mean instinct isn't telling me. Otherwise why would we have the ability to have sex?

"We are, though, civilized, and therefore not animals. "
Yes. I was unaware there is a 7th kingdom. Humans are animals. civilization or society is nothing more than one advanced ant colony. humans THINK that they are so far removed, but research has proven otherwise. Certian movements of the body, for example actually happen before we even think about them. and this is fact.

I didn't say i was confused because of your words. I was distracted when writing it, but whatever.

Just because i do not want to end up a father in my head doesn't mean instinct isn't telling me. Otherwise why would we have the ability to have sex?

So, basically, what I said in my last post.

Yes. I was unaware there is a 7th kingdom. Humans are animals.

Homo Sapiens were and could later be "animals", but we are removed from nature, and therefore, the "rules" of "animalness" don't apply in the same way.

humans THINK that they are so far removed, but research has proven otherwise

Really? Research has proven that animals use hot water, live in houses, practice agriculture, and read? Shite.

Certian movements of the body, for example actually happen before we even think about them. and this is fact.

You're talkign about a few reflex physical reactions. I'm talking about the "meaning of life" (or, "what it means to be human").

Ants gather harvest. Ants have a complex hierarchy. Termites and ants, most social insects for that matter, build large and complex structures to house them. They even have special "soldier" raised insects with larger heads/defenses. So yes, in that sense yes. And the Gauls didn't read. Reading wasn't common until well into the 19th century. And even then it was not common. So does this mean the gauls were not humans? Or that we didn't achieve separation from animals until the 19th century?

Research has proven that humans and almost everything we do has some link with the past, some basic instinct behind it. As i said, although we get rich to get rich, subconsciously it is to attract the opposite sex. The rich man has a better chance of getting laid than the poor man. It sounds ridiculous but its a truth.

There is no meaning to life outside of the biological. unless you'd like to entertain one. however from what i've seen you do not.

I have a question pertaining to a Silverchair song

If there is no bathroom
And there is no sink
How is the water out of the tap very hard to drink?

Someone on a Dutch science board told me that you can calculate the heat produced when two forces 'meet'. But because you are dealing with two infinite forces, the heat will be infinite too, which may cause a new big bang (that was his theory) because even elektrons would melt. But scientificly speaking, there is no (normal) solution, I think.

Well bugger me silly, someone's actually got answer to that.
