Now we've all done it, found ourselves listening to and enjoying this which we really shouldn't.
This is a thread to promote the first stage of healing, when we can admit we have a problem and then we can address it.
Hi, my name is Chris, i found myself liking Britney Spears's Toxic and the other one she brought out a while ago..

My guilty pleasures? Mclusky ("My love is bigger than your love, we take more drugs than a touring funk band, sing it!") . . .
. . . and this is me, trying to justify knowing the the lyrics to "sk8r boi":
Avril Lavigne: Vanguard Of International Working-Class Revolution
By: AvRiLFaN4EvA
The success of Avril Lavigne represents certain objective facts, that, when analysed appropriately, reveal a crisis in global capitalism. While it might be tempting to dismiss Avril as a trend - another throw-away pop artist - she is, upon critical consideration, far more. Avril Lavigne, is, in fact, the vanguard of an international working-class revolution that will end in the destruction of commodity-society.
Avril represents the arrival of a new stage of capitalism - beyond "imperialism" - and beyond previous Marxist-Leninist understanding. Avril Lavigne is the a "Sk8er" and, as such, I would like to call this new phase of international post-industrial sk8er capitalism "absorption". Absorption is the incorporation of sk8er-grrl-revolutionary-praxis to capitalism. It is foreshadowed by the commodification of revolution, as embodied by hippie-sell-outs, major-label punk bands, etc. but differs from them in one key way. While prior revolutionary movements could be "detoothed" and turned into harmless commodities for public consumption (For the benefit of the ruling class) Avril Lavigne can not be turned into some sort of consumer product. She is inherently revolutionary. While "Che" and the other heros of South American revolts might be put on to t-shirts, and made into useless figureheads - part of a spectacular pseudo-revolution which we watch/buy but don't take part in - putting Avril into the free market is impossible. It is roughly equivalent to putting "Collectivization" or "radical democratic control of the economy" into capitalism; the nature of our tie-wearing protagonist is absolutely at odds with capitalism. Though there are certainly other, more important, indications, even a casual observer will note her hatred of preppies as expressed in songs like her first hit "Complicated." It is part of an important series of keys to understanding the nature of Avril and her socio-economic (And musical) implications.
As this conflict, this struggle, plays out across the body and psyche of this unsuspecting Napanee native, pulling and pushing, harder and faster as the objective conditions become more drastic, a point will be reached where Avril is forced, not by her own some monstrous act of will, but because of the facts of her environment to what Leon Trotsky would have referred to as permanent orgasm. From this point, she will, inevitably, lead the proletariat to glorious victory, and then proceed to crush its class enemies, ensuring a swift transition to global communism.
Workers of the world, unite behind eyeliner and live Greenday covers!
Workers of the world, unite behind the new single, "My Happy Ending"!
Workers of the world, unite behind Avril Lavige!
The proletariat has nothing to lose but its dignity.

But come on STYX, you can't get much guiltier than that unless you throw in Journey, REO Speedwagon, Survivor, or Loverboy.

I don't personally feel guilty for it, because I realize that it's genuinely great music, unlike Aerosmith and Styx.
But it certainly goes against my staunch anti-punk stance. Which I have to try to redeem myself from now. But I always liked new wave, so... fuck it.
And I don't really like Styx. Denis DeYoung is the worst man in the world of music, but those two songs are okay.

I just want to congratulate and thank Virgin Molotov Cocktail for that post. That was literally one of the funniest things I've ever seen posted on this site.
Now let's see:
I find myself singing along to alot of shitty R&B on the radio, I listen to a talk show that's on the local hip hop R&b station, so I hear alot of it. That Alicia Keyes song is an example.
As a little kid I listened to Boyz 2 Men religiously. As well as 2 Live Crew, Wrex In Effect, Bel Biv Devoe and plenty of others.
I could name alot of country songs that I'm ashamed of liking.
Ever since the breakup I've been digging horrible emotional crap like Alakaline Trio.
I'll stop, I've dug myself deep enough.

If you think this is a good thing you're kinda missing the point. SOAD are meant to sound chaotic, what with the radical timing and key changes. They're actually quite innovative, which is more than I can say for that psuedo-punk, teenie boppin, cliched, Britney with a bad tailor, over-rated, manufactured, watered down tart you call Avril Lavigne.

Actually SOAD is not that bad. In fact, they have some good melodies, atmospheres, and various unexpected surprises, but the problem is that when they rock they sound like stupid nu-metal crap with those stupid distorted guitars that ruin it. I prefer them when they don't try to sound "loud" or "trashy", since the singer seems to be better at that than at screaming, and their guitars don't sound like shit. I'm not saying that they are great, just that they are the best "nu metal" band.
I heard Avril Lavigne doing "Chop Suey!" once actually, a long time ago on the radio. It was probably the worst thing I've ever heard.

I agree that Come Sail Away sucks.
And Chop Suey is definitely a bad song.
And I doubt that you're familiar with the Beegees' early work. Their career was not limited to 70s dance pop music, I'm afraid.
Besides, this thread isn't to rip on peoples' bad tastes. With same of the nu metal crap and mainstream rap being posted here, I could easily do the same, but I fear that this would intimidate people and discourage them from posting their guilty pleasures. =D

Best lyricist around?? Around what, the corner? Overhyped, undertalented ASSHOLE is what he is. The new Vanilla Ice.
Well, I guess I had to disagree with celtopunk eventually.
You're out of your mind if you think Eminem is undertalented. There are very few men in Hip Hop who are, or were, on his level (lyrically). I can think of maybe 3 or 4. There are alot of rappers I like listening to more the Eminem, but for sheer lyrical genius, Eminem has little competition.

I don't like Eminem at all either. His lyrics may have some sort of poetic value, but the topics he raps about are extremely trite, juvenile, and offensive.
Give me some Talib Kweli, De La Soul, Roots, or Mos Def any day over this little ****.
His persona is also extremely contrived, not that it has anything to do with his music's quality or lack thereof.

I'm not to sure about this. Eminem, if you're talking about mcees in a historical sense, is not up on top, top 15 probally. I mean when I put on his new album I wanted to throw it against the wall, it is impossible to take the guy seriously with songs like 'Big Weenie' and 'Ass Like That'. Your fans wait for you to drop a decent album and the half end of the CD is juvenile stuff. That and considering what he did with the new Tupac album, I am not a fan.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. No need to get all JPF/PFJ if you know what I mean.

My point was we seem to agree much of the time no need get stuck on this one issue.
It was a Monty Python reference. Ever see the Life of Brian? If you haven't you should, that goes for all of you.

His Gangsta rap was far superior.
celtopunk,
A lot of people wouldn't understand LoB, you need a more European sense of humour for it.

I don't think you need to have a European sense of humor, but perhaps a slightly more sophisticated sense of humor. Despite some of the musical tastes here I'll give the average Che-Lives member the benefit of the doubt. I know this isn't the movie forum but truly good humor works on many levels and you can be laughing at several things at the same time.
Anyway if you haven't seen Life of Brian check it out.
And now back to music...
My Yahoo radio station is back on line, if anybody wants to give it a listen, please let me know what you think.
