I just learned "Apperently I'm A PC Fascist" and I am a very happy boy.
Speaking of which, does anybody know how to play the little solo-y bit on the chorus of "Pigs Will Pay"? I really can't suss it out - I don't know why - it sounds deceptively simple, yet the notes evade me. If anyone is good at picking things up by ear, I could send them the MP3 . . .

Guitarist... SRV. The guy could play it all. One of, if not the best blues guitarists of all time. Just a pure guitarist. Others would be Page, Townshend, Jeff Beck. Clapton isn't even in the same league. For drummers, I would say Danny from Tool is probably the best right now, although Neil Peart from Rush was/is great. I would also whole heartedly agree with Keith Moon and Bonham .

I can't remember which thread I mentioned this in, but I saw Danny Carey in one of those small venues playing with his other band Pigmy Love Circus, and I was right in front watching him play and he did this excellent drum solo that can make you have an orgasm, and his drums were sparkly too. It was one of the best nights I ever had because I got to meet the lead singer of the Pigmys and he was really nice and we talked casually for a couple minutes or so and then I just said, "Well tell the rest of the guys they did an awesome job out there"and the lead singer (Mike Savage) just says "oh hey jen, you can just go around the back and talk to Danny an the guys if you want"...by then I shit my pants....well unfortunately I had to go as soon as he said that due to my ride laying on the horn telling me to hurry my ass up, but I was that close to meeting one of the best drummers and the rest of a great band....now I wish I would have just flipped off the car that was picking me up and went, but then again I'm glad I didn't meet them, I would have portrayed myself as a dumb ass in there presence anyway.

It's tricky to seperate influences from players that I simply like, but I'll try:
Jimi Hendrix: The guy who wrote the rulebook, rewrote it then probably burnt it...
Pete Townsend & Steve Jones: Both back to basics loud and violent rhythm players...
Dave Gilmour, Slash & Mark Knopfler: For that soulful and melodic lead style.
Eric Clapton, SRV & Muddy Waters: Can't beat a bit of blues...
Matt Belamy: For sheer inventivness...
Brian May: The guy who inspired me to pick up the guitar in the first place...

Stevie Ray Vaughan is an incredible guitarist, that I can agree with. But his music does not do for me what other blues does. He doesn't make you feel the blues.
Jimmy Page, Brian May, David Gilmour, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck, Robert Fripp, Steve Howe, Frank Zappa, Ritchie Blackmoore, Duane Allman, etc. are all amazing, of course.
Let's not forget the great blues guitarists.
BB King, T-bone Walker, Elmore James, Albert Collins, Albert King, Otis Rush, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker. These guys are real!

RZ...Do you have the Albert King with SRV album recorded in "83? If you don't, you should definitely try to get your hands on it. Some incredible guitar playing and Albert King is well.....Albert King.
SRV's blues, is a bit different than most. I would agree with you that it doesn't quite have the same feel as say B.B King or John Lee Hooker or Muddy, as his influences were a bit more eclectic. Blues people tend to say SRV is too Rock & Roll, and Rock & Roll people tend to say he's to Blues. :)
But, listen to Stevie's Tin Pan Alley, and I think you can feel the reverence he had for the blues.
I know it's probably blasphemous, but I also thing SRV's version of Voodoo Chile is better than the original.
If you don't have an MP3 of Tin Pan Alley and would like to hear it, PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you. It'll be about 8-9 megs though.
And how could I have forgotten Ritchie Blackmoore?

As far as drummers go I would have to say Dave Lombardo from Slayer
http://www.slayerized.com/pictures/dave/dave003.jpg
and Igor Cavalera from Sepultura

No, but that sounds awesome, I'll look into it. Thanks.

Judging it as blues, it's a bit bland, if you ask me. It doesn't do for me what other blues does. And I like rock just as much, if not more than blues.
Thanks for the recommendations.

<_< ... Being the sentimental girl that I am ..
Numero uno goes to David Gilmour's solos, every single one of them, (especially in Shine On) makes me go gah-gah.
Kirk Hammett, for Fade To Black
Jimmy Page, for Stairway.
STEVE HACKETT - Genesis. Lovely. Lovely.
Dave Murray and Adrian Smith from Maiden...
Kurt Cobain, for all he's worth.

Gene Krupa was incredibly the greatest drummer of his time, back in the early 1900's. His fast rythmic beats brought inspirations for other drummers to do the same.
And I think he got sent to jail for one single marijuana joint. Tough laws during that time no doubt.

Danny Carey, the best drummer I've ever heard.
Guitarists, eh I don't know, the guitar doesn't really matter as long as the drums are good, that's my reckon. :P
