so are their any Pratchett fans here. I'm a huge fan. I find his pragmatic, and satirical outlook on the world refreshing.

I read pretty much all of the discworld books but not many outside of that. Best book has to be either soul music, nightwatch or....oh what is the name again with the barbarians? It has been a whle.

That would be "Interesting Times", I believe.

Pratchett is a comical genius as far as I'm concerned - I don't think there's any aspect of this world he couldn't take a poke at. I'm a self-confessed "Pratchettaholic": There are some parts of his books that are quite literally inspired:

"What is it that a man may call the greatest things in life?"
- "Hot water, good dentishtry and shoft lavatory paper." -The Light Fantastic

"While I'm still confused and uncertain, it's on a much higher plane, d'you see, and at least I know I'm bewildered about the really fundamental and important facts of the universe." Treatle nodded. "I hadn't looked at it like that," he said, "But you're absolutely right. He's really pushed back the boundaries of ignorance." -Equal Rites

Only one creature could have duplicated the expressions on their faces, and that would be a pigeon who has heard not only that Lord Nelson has got down off his column but has also been seen buying a 12-bore repeater and a box of cartridges. -Mort

The only things known to go faster than ordinary light is monarchy, according to the philosopher Ly Tin Weedle. He reasoned like this: you can't have more than one king, and tradition demands that there is no gap between kings, so when a king dies the succession must therefore pass to the heir instantaneously. Presumably, he said, there must be some elementary particles -- kingons, or possibly queons -- that do this job, but of course succession sometimes fails if, in mid-flight, they strike an anti-particle, or republicon. His ambitious plans to use his discovery to send messages, involving the careful torturing of a small king in order to modulate the signal, were never fully expanded because, at that point, the bar closed. -Mort

- "Sodomy non sapiens," said Albert under his breath.
- "What does that mean?"
- "Means I'm buggered if I know." -Mort

Above the hearth was a huge pokerwork sign saying "Mother". No tyrant in the whole history of the world had ever achieved a domination so complete. -Wyrd Sisters

I'm sure you get the idea ;)

I've read a lot of Pratchett Books. A little difficult to read until you get used to them but definately worth it. Interesting times was especially good.
