Why would all these Republicans start to resign? Is there some sort of reason accoridng to US politics or something?

Just read BBC News, and this is a quote from them -

"Mr Powell was seen as a moderate voice within the Bush administration."

Maybe he didint "resign" completely voluntarily. Perhaps Bush will try to make his Cabinet more right-wing?

Mr Powell was a popular figure in the Bush administration and enjoyed good relations with his international counterparts.
Of course he was...

I don't really know, but I remember that Colin Powell was concidered quite "liberal" compared to the rest of the Bush cabinet. Maybe he "couldn't stand" four more years..?

Well... compared to Bush, Cheney and Rumsveldt he was quite popular. Best of a bad bunch, so to speak. Stretching it, I know - nevertheless... ;)

You know I was so happy when I first saw the headline, I thoguht 'Whoo! The neo-con asshole who can't even pronounce his own name properly is going,' but its not as if he won't be replaced by another neo-con asshole is it?
I rekon he's going to make room for some other insanely rich corporate businessman to profit out of the country (just like Dick Cheney.)

He may be replaced by Condoleezza Rice. Hell yeah!

It's not uncommon for people to resign after their first term though. After this he's gonna be all set financially, even more I mean.

Well Ill talk some flak for this one... But If Colin powell decided to run for president I would support him.... I think he knows what he is doing and He doesnt take shit from nobody..

But I still dislike him quite a bit for what he did in the bush administration.. Maybe thats why he resigned?? Quite possibly because he was taking any more shit from bush. Yah know well He may be a bad man but at least he was a sane person...

Whenever I saw him speak about Iraq, WMds, and the like, I always had the feeling that he really didn't believe what he was saying, but was forced to say it. Maybe it was a bizarre, irational feeling, but in his defense, I did always sense he didn't believe half the shit he was saying.

I think you're right, actually. If you look at him when Bush was first "elected," and four years later, you'll see a big difference. Almost like Lincoln aging during the Civil War. Not that I'm comparing the two, but in the recent pictures, he looks all stressed out and depressed. I don't like any of the conservative assholes that are in office, but he always seemed like the best of them all to me.

I think Bush's majority means that he thinks he can push more right wing nuts through the New Congress.

Perhaps Colin's wife has relented and he is stepping down to prepare for the 2008 election?

He certainly seemed tired of it when he was putting the case forward to the UN didn't he? The thing is though if he didn't believe in the war why did he support it? Don't have any illusions about him. He may have been against the war but the fact that he didn't say anything about it makes him just as bad as those neo-con hawks like Wolowitz who came up with it.

I'm not saying the allegations aren't true (how the hell should I know) but these kind of websites sometimes just publish outright lies, or stories with wildly exaggerated claims.

Just search for "My Lai massacre" and you will see that Powell is very involved in this.

Yeah it seems like he didn't actually kill anyone in it, but as the investigator into it he deliberatly didn't do a very good job.

And only Calley got convicted? Everyone up the chain, up to Westmoreland should have gone.
