The Socialist Party USA (http://www.sp-usa.org) is a Democratic Socialist, multi-tendency party. What we mean by multi-tendency, is that while we united by a common set of principles, we may have different underlying philosophies.

As a multi-tendency party, there are some organized tendencies that have been formed. So, in case anyone would be interested, I thought I'd announce the formation of the Direct Action Tendency of the Socialist Party USA (which was formed a month or so ago). It is basically the Anarchist wing of the Socialist Party USA.

How many mainstream tendencies are there within the SPUSA?

And how exactly does an anarchist wing of a parliamentary organisation work?

There are four organized tendencies

The Debs Tendency: http://www.debstendency.org
The Direct Action Tendency: http://www.actiontendency.net
The Grassroots Tendency: no website
The Comrades Caucus: no website

The SP-USA is not really a parlimentary organization. Noone actually expects to get elected and noone actually thinks it would change anything. Electoral campaigns are run for education and party building purposes only. Basically we run electoral campaigns to show a socialist alternative.

The focus is more on activism. There are Anarchists in the party, and I'm sure many are like myself and choose not to really participate in the electoral part of the SP. An Anarchist wing could focus on moving the party in a Libertarian Socialist direction as well as doing direct actions.
