Some like-minded comrades and I are considering starting up a club at school. At first we wanted to make it a "Young Socialists" club...kind of like the Young Democrats and Republicans. I gave that a second thought....we might just end having to be another reformist platform green-party like group in order to maintain any legitmacy we have (doubt the school will sponser a revolutionary politically active group ;) ).

I suggested a second idea, Alternative Politics and Philosophy club. Simply a discussion group *wink wink* nothing big. I'm refraining from officially calling it communist or anything else of that sort. One, to not draw unnecessary attention and misdirected comments, and secondly, because we're not all communists...we will probably have a mix of democratic socialists, anarchists, libertarian marxists, etc. This idea just seems like the best way to encompass all of those things. My friend already has found a teacher to sponser us...now we just have to take our case to the administration.

What do you think...is it worth persuing such a goal or will the administration and its facist counterparts just end up shutting us down? Is it really possible to get some revolutionary message across while working in the confines of the school system. I think that it sure as hell is important to try.

Dunno tho...what do you guys think?

No matter what the environment is like, you should ALWAYS try and educate people about our ideas, as long as you know how to explain them and present them correctly. Have open debates and the such, and invite everyone in school to attend. I think that branding the group "Radical Left" would be better, because #1 the word "radical" will attract people, and #2 that's what it really IS!

If you find a teacher who is willing to sponsor you, can't he explain what is really possible on your school, and what not?
I think you should know the mission (official) of your school. If your group doesn't call out against this mission there should be nothing wrong. After all, you are fighting for a better world, aren't you not? That's the message you can bring to the administration. Ofcourse, you can bring it a little diffrent to the students....
I am curious of how it will go..... we never had clubs like this on school, really sounds great.
