Didn't Chomsky come out in support of Kerry earlier this year?
I like Chomsky, but I think it's crap that he's telling us to participate in the bourgeois electoral system, and sort of inconsistent with his past positions. Not to mention he is a total hack when he talks about Marxism, but that's off-topic.

^Maybe its way beyond your comprehension.

It must be "beyond my comprehension" too. I thought his remarks were simply newsbabble.
And I notice that now he says the election was about "picking a king" but before the election, he was telling us that it was "crucial" that Bush be defeated.
Chomsky is an excellent researcher into the details of American imperialism. But he's completely clueless about why it exists in the first place...or how to resist it within the borders of America.

Probably the first time in history that "Comrade Rogers" has been promoted to the level of "defender of the working class" and theoretical adviser to Che-Lives.

The dialectical attributes of the column in question at first hand seem appealing, but given the past few months before the election and Chomsky's response to the defeat of George W. Bush, it's obvious he's writing this article in a defeatist tone that exposes his utter lack of faith in the electoral system in America.

I agree with that. I have read a lot of really good books from Chomsky but suggesting that kerry would be a better president than Bush is of course absolutely stupid. I'm really sorry that something like that would come from Chomsky. They are both supported by big corporations and they want their money back. And war is good for business.

I think you guys got it all wrong. He is not suggesting that Kerry is a better ruler. In his recent work of literature "Hegemony or Survival" he states that the actions of the U.S. are pivotal to the survival of the human race. Even though if Kerry had been elected, terrorism, free trade, and all the other bullshit would be around, however, lets be realistic, would you rather have a King who is bound on world domination or the one that believes in ye' olde containment policy.
Sentances are for fools!(just noticed i made a really long sentance, therefore etc.)

Didn't Kerry support the war in Iraq? He maybe would have fought a nicer war? ;) And the guys behind the throne rule anyway. Is Kerry supported by more democratic supercorporations?

My post (slightly edited) on infoshop.org on the topic:

While I personally reject voting, I understand that some anarchists might see some utility in voting Kerry - there are some differences (Stance on abortion, etc.) that might be of some short term benefit. In the same way we might plug our noses and fight for better wages, or other concessions from our bosses through (*Gag*) bureaucratic unions, it might be in our interest, "Along the way" to see Kerry in power. Of course, he is a warmongering fuck, and naturally, as anarchists we oppose him, but wouldn't it be nice to avoid back-alley abortions and gov't-sanctioned homophobia? In the same way we should be, ideally, be concerned with hanging the boss, wouldn't it be nice to have a little left over after rent to buy the rope? It might also be suggested that revealing the "Alternative" to largely represent the same shit, we might be able to move the people at large away from reactionary "Anybody-But-Bush" politics and toward meaningful, progressive action.
Just felt I needed to play devil's advocate for a moment.
Love, Brad
