My girlfriend finds a lot of unique songs for me. And I'm just curious as to whether anyone has heard Rammstein's Hitler? I speak enough German to pick up a little bit here at there, but this one is pretty blatently obvious  . It's just a messed up funny song. I think they're trying to impersonate Hitler's voice.

I heard that Rammstein was a fascist band! They named their band after a disaster that happened over the town of Rammstein where they were doing an air-show and the gaz tank blew up in one of the planes killing many spectators! Do you like that kind of music?

I try to keep music and politics seperated, but still...I never knew Rammstein were Nazis, I didnt even know they were extreme right wing for that matter.
People might think that very quickly because of the militaristic drums and guitar riffs and some guy who sings in German which an overdone German accent :P

This debate has come up a number of times. The accusations of them being fascist has a lot to do with the imagery they use. While not openly fascist imagery, it rekindles ideas of Nazi Germany. I think Malte posted lyrics to a song they did that was their attempt at nullifying the rumours about them being fascists. I don't think they are but they need to be more careful about the image they throw around.

Rubbish, Rammstein have been openly anti-fascist, and I recall reading on one time one of them made a stupid comment they were jumped on froma great height, and ended up saying sorry for like a month.

Rammstein are not Nazis. Just listen to some of their newer stuff and the song "Moscow" I believe it's called.

Their lead vocalist was an Olympic swimmer for the DDR before the band, so I doubt they would be fascists. You people could ask IrishGuevara for more information, because his favorite band is Rammstein.

All the "controversial imagery" stuff they do was just an idea stolen from Laibach.

And here's Rammstein's most controversial stuff:

And Laibach is way better anyway.

What's everyone's take on their song Amerika? Quite funny and catching.

Rammstein are most definitely NOT fascists. The fact that they like to use militaristic imagery and sounds simetimes does not make them fascists, they have said this themselves many times. They are accused of being fascists because of that militaristic imagery; judging somebody by such things is ridiculous, you wouldn't call Eminem a terrorist because he played Osama bin Laden in one of his video clips.

Rammstein are actually leftists... Their entire fan base is actually the Russian activist community too.
"Moscow! We're singing out to Lenin!
Moscow! The best place in the world!"
Yeah, they really sound like Nazis don't they?
Yazman
23rd November 2004, 05:19
Rammstein themselves actually said the reason they called the band "Rammstein" is because they were horrified by the events at Ramstein AFB and wanted everybody to know about what happened there.

I doubt whetever Rammstein is so political as some you make it to be.
To my knowledge they named the band Rammstein to attract more attention.
And no they are not facists. This is their commercial act. Getting attention through shocking people. Nor are they gay, altough they perform "gay-like" scenes on stage. It's all meant to shock and get attention.
But they make sweet music. Found their previous albums better then the current one, altough this one has it's charm too. But I have to listen better to this one. Knew them before they became famous :D

Sounds a lot like Marilyn Manson. They (also?) make good music, although they act like caged chimpanzees on stage.

Definately not facist and I have never heard a song called Hitler by them. I've searched everywhere for it. Some german songs are wrongly attributed to them. One I download was called "Rammstein-Jihad"
Laibach are also very good. Try downloading "Laibach - Tanz mit Laibach" It has some excellent lyrics...
one, two, three, four
come dance with me comrade
one, two, three, four
give me both your hands
one, two, three, four
come dance with me comrade
one, two, three, four
round around, it isn't difficult
we dance and we jump
we hop and we sing
we fall and rise
we give or take
American friend and
German comrade
we dance well together
we dance to Baghdad

If I remember correctly Leibach are from Slovenia...right? Not Germany. The closest thing Rammstein might have done to be seen as Nazis is the usage of that Nazi athlete propaganda movie for their video for the Depeche Mode cover of 'Stripped'

Yeah, Laibach are from Slovenia. 'Labach' is the German word for Ljubljana.
Eh I found this lovely piece on wikipedia about Liabach. Give it a read...
Laibach (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
An industrial/techno music group, formed 1980 in Trbovlje, Slovenia, Laibach represents the music wing of the Neue Slowenische Kunst art collective. The name "Laibach" is the German name for Slovenia's capital city, Ljubljana. The more popular industrial/metal group Rammstein are generally considered to have been heavily influenced by Laibach.
Laibach have frequently been accused of Germanophilia thanks to their costumes, which often resembled Nazi officers' uniforms, and also thanks to the Wagnerian stylistic aspects found in some of their music, notably the thunder in "Sympathy for the Devil (Who Killed The Kennedies)". Laibach always denied this strongly, pointing out that, as fascism needs a scapegoat, they had become their own scapegoat in the name of satire. Milan Fras, the lead singer (who is instantly recognisable by his staring eyes and gruff, growling voice), is quoted as saying "We are fascists as much as Hitler was a painter" when confronted with such accusations.
Laibach are notorious for never stepping out of character. Their releases feature artwork by the anti-Nazi artist John Heartfield, and their concerts are held as political rallies. When interviewed, they answer in wry manifestos, showing a ridiculous lust for power.
They are also known for their cover versions, which are often used to subvert the original message or intention of the song - most notable being their cover version of the song "Life is Life" on the album Opus Dei, which completely changes the meaning of the song from the original writers' intentions. Whereas the original is a feel-good hippie anthem, Laibach's subversive interpretation twists the melody into a sinister, rolling military march.
Other notable covers include the entirety of the Beatles album Let It Be and their album Sympathy for the Devil which deconstructs the Rolling Stones song of the same name with seven different covers of the song. Opus Dei also features a cover of Queen's "One Vision" with the lyrics translated into German.
Slovene singer and radio announcer Anja Rupel has performed with the group.

When you want to know if the band is fascist, or promoting fascism, then stop thinking so hard.
Fascism makes a very primitive appeal in itself.
If you want to know if by their images their fascist think to yourself, when the band makes you think of fascism with their imagery, how are they making you FEEL about fascism. Does the imagery and music make you feel positive or negative towards ideals that are fascist?
Does it make you feel weary or estranged at the thought of fascism? If so, then it is probably not fascist, but a commentary.

Yeah, it coudl be mislabelled. It's hard to tell because they're impersonating Hitler. I'm not saying they're fascist either. I just heard that they were; I wasn't so much inclined to believe it, but it warranted asking. But I think they made Hitler as a joke, like Barbie Girl. But it has the same music as another song but different words.
Thanks for the tip, I love listening to new music.

"Moskau"
This song is about the most beautiful
city in the world. Moscow!
This city is a prostitute
She has red spots on her forehead
Her teeth are made of gold
She's fat and yet so lovely
Her mouth falls to my valley
when I pay her for it
She takes off her clothes but only for money
The city that keeps me in suspense
Moscow
One, two, three!
Moscow
Look!
Pioneers are walking around there, [1]
singing songs to Lenin.
She is old and nevertheless beautiful
I can't resist her
I can't resist
She powders her old skin
and has gotten her breasts rebuilt
rebuilt
She makes me horny I suffer torment
She dances for me I have to pay
I have to pay
She sleeps with me but only for money
It's still the most beautiful city in the world
Moscow
One, two, three!
Moscow
Look!
Pioneers are walking around there,
singing songs to Lenin.
I see something, that you don't see
(When you close your eyes) [2]
When you sleep deeply in the night
I see something, that you don't see
(When you kneel before me)
When you lie before me
I see something, that you don't see
(When you touch me with your mouth)
When you talk to me
I see something, that you'll never see
One, two, three!
Moscow
One, two, three!
Moscow
Look!
Pioneers are walking around there,
singing songs to Lenin.
[1] The Pioneers were a youth organization operated by the communist party in the USSR (think communist Boy or Girl Scouts). There are or were counterparts in many other communist countries, including East Germany.
[2] The lines in parenthesis are what are sung in concert. They are most likely the original lines, but were changed slightly when translated to Russian. The Russian lines are sung instead on the CD.

Misconception. Till Linderman (Lead Singer) was actually a reasonably successful amateur swimmer before joining Rammstein, NOT an olympic swimmer. Check the FAQ section of Herzeleid.com (http://www.herzeleid.com) for more info regarding that.
And I think the Fascism imagery thing is more of a mockery and a big joke on their part. A reasonably succesful stage performer in Queensland was toted as being gay by the media, something he wasn't, so he dressed and acted overtly 'gay' for the cameras to make a play of it. Perhaps the same thing is happening here?
all that aside a very good band, one of my only continued choices of listening from heavy genres I have long since abandoned.

You listen to whiney hardcore, go away.
I listen to far more than one genre of music.
But you still listen to that. It nullifies any hope you have of criticising anyone elses taste in music. Plus you're Australian.
Isn't your favourite band Nine inch Nails?

Its funny to see how the neo-'s that like Rammstein react when I show them these lyrics, they mostly end up saying that they never really liked them  .
We share a room and bed
brother dear, come and be so kind
brother dear, come touch me
slide closely to me
In front of the bed, a black hole
and every sheep falls inside
I am already too old, yet still count them
because I cannot sleep
Under the navel, in the branches
a white dream is already waiting
brother dear, come hold tightly
and shake the leaves from the tree for me
Play a game with me
give me your hand and
play with me
a game
play with me
a game
play with me
because we are alone
play with me
a game
house *
Dear brother's hand hurts
he turns to the wall again
brother helps me now and then
so that I can sleep
Play a game
with me
give me your hand and
play with me
a game
play with me
a game
play with me
because we are alone
play with me
a game
house
* "Vater-Mutter-Kind spielen" (to play father-mother-child) means "to play house", as in when children play with each other pretending they are parents, etc.

I agree with Latifa, lots of people who sees german's automatically think "nazi"
But yeah, Rammstein is a great band.
