i think you make to quick conclusions there.
Just because we have a right wing cabinet, doesn't mean that Holland is like the United States.
There are a few stupid extreme right wingers who attemp to burn mosques and some churches are also damaged. The police in Hague has caught some moslim terrorits, but the Dutch Political climate shouldn't turn to right wing ideas.
The harsh police intervention has been done because of the political climate right now, and the climate is this way because a muslim extremist shoot a right wing colomunist.
If Holland will have elections now, they predicted that there will be a left wing parlement, so there is still hope.

First let me explain on how the Dutch Unions work.

The Dutch Unions don't strike or even take action. They gather yearly with represenatives from government and businesslife to discuss the wages and working conditions. Usually the general wage raise, is just a little above the inflation. This is a highly efficient means of controlling the workers.

This year, we had a change. The government demanded that the wages, should be "frozen". To save our "crippling" economy. Ofcourse only the wages of the working class were affected, the wages of the elite were steadily on the rise. This together with a load of governmental measures which affected primarily the working class economically. It infuriated the working class!

There was a sentiment of action in the air. Something needed to be done. The Unions which have been effectivly "friends" with business and government, needed to take "action" to not to loose support among the working class.

The Unions anounced with much noise and display that they were going to take action. They wouldn't take this "shit"! And some "action" it was. On a saturday, we would have to carry signs, listen to some speeches, shout a little and march through Amsterdam.

Nonetheless I and 300,000 people were there, not counted the numerous of people who couldn't come because the roads were jammed and having difficulties manouvering with a handicap. I was very pleased, finally the Unions were "radicalizing". We were all waiting for the general strike to come. But the general strike didn't come.

The Unions gathered with the government and business once again and announced that things were "OK" once again. Things were obviously not OK. The agreement signed, looked bittering much at the previous one.

The people were still not happy. Then something happend, which proofed to be a "life saviour" for the Dutch bourgeoisie. A muslim shot down a columnist. This attracted immediatly the attention. The government knows how to exploit this and declared officialy the war on terror.

They started a massive operation in The Hague, involving army, police and blocking all air traffic. The government announced to use all money necessary in this war on terrorism. And to increase the Dutch secret service (AIVD) and their power. And this all from the liberal party.

So yes, I do fear that attention has been distracted efficiently from important matters. And that poll was befor, this whole mess with the dead columnist happend. Who knows how much it has shifted this time.

But, an election victory of the right-winged parties wouldn't be such bad news. It further radicalized the Dutch people and stimulates them to seek alternatives to our present system. If the "left" wing parties would win, it would be under the lead of the petty-bourgeoisie PvdA.

Which would bring no improvements, remember this party has

- approved the invasion of Iraq
- Important members get high seats in businesses after their departure (especially Shell)
- Agrees that the changes proposed by the Liberal party are needed, but thinks that they should be activated in a later stage.

But this is my vision the recent events in Holland. Feel free to comment.
