Its pretty average, actually. I have all the manics albums, and a fair few singles, (I'm an insane manics fan), I bought the album the day it came out, and I thought it wasn't bad.

Dont get me wrong, It has none of the true anthems such as Slash 'n Burn, A Design for Life, etc. Nor does it have the in your face sound of songs such as Archieves of Pain or All Surface No fealing.

Indeed I would say its an album completely unlike anythey have ever produced. Its a far more chilled album, indeed far more depressed, the kind of sounds you would expect from the likes of say, Semisonic, Coldplay, Radiohead, Steriophonics, never a manics album. But there it is, that is how it sounds.

I dont think as an album it is as good as any of the others they have poduced in terms of the energy, but it stands out in other ways. It is by far the smoothest slickest album they have produced. Songs such as 1985, Empty Souls, Emily, Glasnost are very good.

In terms of my favourate manics album, this I have to say is not number one. That is reserved for Generation Terrorist or The Holy Bible. But I would place this album around number 4. Higher than say Everything Must Go and Know Your Enemy.

3/5

If you want to download any songs then I suggest the following: -

Slash 'n Burn
Motorcycle Emptyness,
Sleep Flower,
Roses in the Hospital,
Archieves of Pain,
4st7lb,
Ifwhiteamericatoldthetruthforjustonedayit'sworldwo uldfallapart,
Found That Soul,
The Masses Against the Classes,
There By The Grace Of God,
Freedom Of Speach Won't Feed My Children,
All Surface No fealing,
Methadone Pretty,
A design or Life,
The Everlasting,
Natwest Barcleys Midlands Lloyds,
If you Tolerate This,
Enola/Alone

I have bolded the ones I think are best in that list. There are of course others, many others, but these are the ones which spring to mind first.

Try using bit torrent, or DC++, or anyother file sharing program to find them.

Like Enigma says it's very unManicsy (the lack of guitars is a bit off putting) but it's enjoyable none the less. I'll have to give it a few more listens before I decide fully...

The Apostles have a history of covering bands of which I'm fond (McCarthy) . . .

1985 isn't an Apostles cover, is it?

I will agree that this album is not the best they have made but it is brilliant to listen to.

It makes me relax.

I tought that at first but after a few listent I really got into it. Some very good songs on it, especially freedom of speech won't feed my children, we are all bourgois now, covalesecent, wattsville blues.

I managed to get a ticket for the Brighton Leg of the lifeblood tour <3 It ought to be great.

In terms of lifeblood, it doesn't have the energy of previous releases but it's still kinda good, I think one more MSP album and then the end. Hopefully a really punk rock one, back in the spirit of Generation Terrorists or Holy Bible.

It's not their worst by a long shot. They couldn't really have a "worst" [sic] album. All good in different ways.

When I said "The Apostles have a history of" I meant "The Manics have a history of" . . .

In any case, the first album is still my favorite - I have a short attention span.

Generation Terrorists is amazing.

Some utterly classic songs.
