So I was listening to Public Radio International this afternoon and a story came on about how some Indian scientists want to make an electronic unit that includes television, phone, and computer. All in one. Sounds pretty good, huh? This would potentially be targeted at the billions of poor people around the world. It would be very cheap and would be useable by illiterate people. The guy that was interviewed openly said that there was a market for this and people would gladly give up a meal or two each day to have it.
So is this something good?
Does gearing technological innovation towards the underprivileged strengthening them or just appeasing them to sedate them from rebellious action?
Does it detract from the motivation to become educated?
I found this article on the same subject.
