I just thought I'd drop a line to y'all from Sunny Leningrad (I refuse to call it Saint Petersburg). The Hermatage is nice, and no one can deny the the architecture around here is a cut above most places.
I've just come from Moscow where I done the usual tourist stuff (red square, Kremlin, St Basils, Metro blah blah). Of course I went to give my regards to Lenin, but he didn't have much to say for himself. He still enjoys a surprising amount of respect amoungst the Muscovites, and visitors to the mausoleum get scolded if they don't file past Comrade Vlad with arms at their sides and heads slightly bowed
Anyway, to sum it all up, come for the architecture, history, art and to admire the remnants of the communist era, but remember that this is now one of the most rampant capitalist nations around, pleantly of McDonalds, KFC and expensive shops selling tourist crap. Also, the taxis are a rip-off, one guy wanted the equivilent of $150US for a 30 minute rid from Shermantievo Airport to moscow City Centre!
