The Bush administration seems to be funding murderers who use terror to achieve political ends. Hmmm, does that mean that the disgustingly hypocritical Bush is going to declare war on himself? Of course not. Heck, he doesn't even mind that his VP made a ton of money dealing with Iraq (http://www.commondreams.org/views02/0605-02.htm). Besides, these terrorists are killing labor activists and people standing up for human rights, so they are the kind of people that the US traditionally has supported, especially in Latin America. This time it's no different.

Colombia is Burning...
And the U.S. Is Pouring Gasoline on the Fire

On April 8, Alfredo Zapata Herrera was on his way to work at a cement factory when right wing paramilitaries dragged him off a bus and killed him. Zapata was a leader in the local construction workers' union. The military and the police knew that he was targeted for assassination, but did nothing to protect him. He was the 45th union organizer killed in Colombia this year. Six more have been killed since. Three out of every four union organizers killed around the world are killed in Colombia.

Funny how oil once again comes in to play, isn't it? Funny like a funeral. And remember, folks, that Yeehaw George cut funding for alternative fuel research. Yep. No surprises from this guy at all, just the same old cynical politics of the rich that everyone should have expected.

Its not like there's a left wing alternative in Colombia. FARC are little more than egotistical drug dealers who have about as much to do with socialism as the Colombian football team.

And this means it's a good thing for the USA to fund right-wing death squads?

You know, if the right-wingers didn't murder all of the labor activists (and get rewarded for it), perhaps there would be a better alternative to the FARC. Of course, you also forgot to mention the drug running by the right-wingers, so I'm not sure you really know too much about the situation.

Thanks for that vox.

Always good to hear about America defending fundamental freedoms, not least the freedom to murder union activists.
