Read what Richard Boucher said about Castro's accident near the end of the article.

Damn American gov't looking to make Cuba another colony...I really am no Castro supporter, but it'd be worse if America were to make its presence known in Cuba. I wanna see Castro's reaction to Boucher's statement, lol.

"the Cuban people "deserve democracy""

The only thing the U.S. ever talks about is 'democracy', as if that would solve all problems. I'm sure the embargo has caused more problems for the Cuban people than the lack of democracy.

Thats too bad that the old dog broke his knee with that little fall. He will have to take it easy and smoke a few cigars

all democracy would bring would be macdonalds and walmart, bush can keep it

With International Observers monitoring the elections in the U$, they can keep their brand of "democracy"!

Typical response from a typical asshole.

It was proven in the last election that democracy does not exist in the states. It has been proven in Iraq that the US should not ever try to implement democracy because if they do, they'll fuck it up because they don't even really know what it is in the first place. Does anyone get the feeling that a much greater number of Iraqis have died as a result of US military intervention than in all the years Saddam was in power?

Distinguido Comandante Fidel,

Glad to see you're up and about doing your thing. Hope you heel up quick and feel better soon.
Con Mucho Cariņo,
Joseph

Democracy is a relative word.

Rasta Sapian and dso79, you seem to be of the idea that democracy IS what America say it is. Democracy, to socialists, is Socialism. Therefore, Cuba has massive democracy.

dso79:

I'm sure the embargo has caused more problems for the Cuban people than the lack of democracy.

What lack of democracy is that?

In the Communist Manifesto Marx says something like - The Bourgeoisie usher people into their society calling themselves civilized and other uncivilised - Funny old world innit.

In a democracy people can vote to elect the members of the government, or influence the government's policy. That's not the case in Cuba, though I don't consider that a bad thing.

I don't really see how 'democracy, to socialists, is socialism', so please explain. I think socialism is much better than democracy.

So he fell, big fucking deal. He's an old man and obviously everyone's body deterioates evntually, especiall when you put your body through the stress Fidel has over his life time. I can't belive these assholes think that its funny that he fell and hurt himself. What's so hilarious about an elderly man breaking his leg or knee or whatever it was?

Well do you not believe that Socialism is the ultimate complete democracy?

If you don't support Castro then what are you doing here, man? Slumming? I'm sick and tired of these pseudo-revolutionaries coming here and declaring their support for vague ideas of "civil liberties" and "freedom of the press."

I dont give a fuck what you're sick and tired of, sorry for being indepedent and actually using my brain for a second...but it's the conclusion I've drawn after years of studying the entire Cuban movement.

Castro's a Machiavellian-Prince'ish type leader. If you've studied Castro, you'd know that many close ppl that helped him to power were subdued in some form to allow himself into power.

'pseudo-revolutionaries'? i never called myself a revolutionary, nor did I declare any support for 'freedom of the press', or 'civil liberties', I guess its one of those things you narrow-minded 'My view is the best and everyone else's is wrong' type ppl think about.

Meh, we all can't be assholes like you...

I suppose true socialism is a very democratic ideology, but I still don't see "massive democracy" in Cuba.

Yeah, because we should really be supporting 'real' ideas such as secret police and gulags (I know Cuba doesn't have them, just examples). I know, why don't we support 'Death Camps for All?'
