Sunday 24th Oct is the start of the disarmament week which coincides with the
anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. The purpose of disarmament week is to highlight the ongoing danger of the arms race and increase the publics
understanding of the urgent taks of disarmament. Whilst most of the debates around disarmament occurs at state level, there is a need for more community engagement on these matters that pose a threat to us all. The proliferation of any weapon does not lead to peace.
I hope you can take 5 minutes to read the request below and respond with action.
URGENT ACTION REQUEST
Early next week, the UN General Assembly will vote on the New Agenda Resolution on nuclear disarmament. The resolution urges the existing nuclear weapon states to keep their side of the nuclear disarmament bargain and prioritise non-proliferation by all states.
It is very important that Australia maintains our history of supporting disarmament and opposing any form of nuclear proliferation.
Please take a few minutes to write to the minister for foreign affairs, Mr Alexander
Downer and urge him to take a stance for nuclear disarmament and support the New Agenda Resolution at next weeks UN General Assembly.
