Q. What do an insulator and America have in common?
A. The both allow freedom of movement.
Q. What do Cuba and a conductor have in common?
A. They both prevent movement
If you ever get pissed off with your school, just think - you could live in America.

umm...maybe it's been too long since high school but don't insulators insulate and conductors conduct?
So shouldn't the conductor be the one that "allows freedom of movement" and not the other way around??

your right and I checked the article and it was the other way round.

Freedom of movement? Not if our ruling class doesn't want you to go there!
I'm surprised they even dared to remind people of Cuba, and thus the restrictions around it, but they always have been pretty careless with exposing their own hypocrisy. Our flaccid populace doesn't seem to pay much attention anyways.

I find it more distressing that they are spreding this utter BS to the young.

It was in last sunday's Sunday Times culture section about a group of English Kid's who went to school in America. One of them got detention for believing in Evolution.

OH PLEASE!!!
That is not true. No American student goes to detention for believing in evolution. Even bible belt states like Georgia and Alabama have been ordered by state curts to not only acknowledge evolution, but to incude it in their curriculum
You're either lying or passing on a horrible urban legend.
Now you guys are really stretching. Is this an arena for serious debate and exchange of ideas, or has it simply deteriorated into a platform sensational and ludicrous claims by the left?

Can I see this "Official Government Physics Paper"?
An official government physics papaer would not have such jokes on it. An official government physics paper would not have such an elementary mistake on it.
Some of these newer members are really compromising what integrity Che-lives had.
Arcadian dream even admitted it was actually the other way around, thus it looks like it is his school system that has failed him. Either he didn't proof read, or doesn't understand electro-dynamics. Either way, the American system is obviously better than his.
Next time you take your 1000-times overplayed and cliche cheap-shot at the US education system, try to not look like a complete idiot.
That sort of defeats the purpose.

Great response, and one I'd expect from the likes of you.
Let's back up a little...
It was in last sunday's Sunday Times culture section about a group of English Kid's who went to school in America. One of them got detention for believing in Evolution.
... and then...
IT WAS FROM A FUCKING TV PROGRAMME!!!!!!!! THEY HAD THE BOY IN FUCKING DETENTION WHY WOULD HE LIE ABOUT HIS PHSYICS PAPER?
So, Arcadian Dream, the question is, when did you lie? When you said it was in the paper, or when you said it was from a TV program?
And now that your lack of credibility has been demonstrated in such an utterly obvious fashion, why should we believe this proposterous claim in the first place, or anything you say for that matter?
Well, to be quite honest, I never did believe this. Additionally, as posts in this thread accumulate, it seems that my position continues to be vindicated.

Nice, an appeal to reason with large dose of irrationality. A Brit made a mistake, therefore the American system of education is better than the British. CI, you have to make a choice, you can either be rational or a dumb nationalist, but you can't be both.

Oh, Come on, Osman, did you even read this thread?
My analysis was sound. Besides, it is a big issue for him to attack my country's intelligence when he is the one who is being stupid, don't you see that?
His own display of ignorance was counterintuitive to his original argument. He defeated his own point!
Honestly, Osman, I think that you arte more interested in refuting me on every issue than really looking at facts. My position in this thread is the correct one, but you are blind to that. You would rather carry-on the Anti-C.I. campaign than acknowledge the truth, and that is a pathetic stance to take.

Notive that I didn't pass any opinion on what Arcadian Dream said. I don't really believe it, though obviously almost every education system has blaring deficiencies.
What I said was that you were wrong for trying to claim that the American system was better based on the evidence that Arcadian Dream made a mistake/ believes in something only half-true.
And as to the anti-CI, well, I come to OI to argue. Who better than the monolithic statue of capitalist imperialism?

Well, the truth is, the American system does have opportunities for improvement, but, fundamentally, it's not a bad system. The basic resources are there, especially with the internet.
The problem, really, is with the students. There are so many distractions in the USA, things like TV, Hollywood, and video games, and American culture itself.
Many contemporary kids are simply not applying themselves. They have easy sensory input form other sources, and it makes them lazy. Students who are genuinely interested in learning do very well in the United States.
The problem is application.

Sorry If I didn't make it clear - it was a review of the TV show in the paper .

pass me the shovel and stop digging....
there was an article in the paper about this physics paper, (i read the same un-integrated paper) but it was in a column....
a hypothetical satire of the American education and political system....
there was no mention of any tv programe. if i can find the paper again, i'll post it up at a later date.
there was absolutley no serious motive behind the article....the word hypothetical was lettered throughout the article if i rememebr correctly.

Yes, and in every country in the world. Learning isn't 'hard', and if you are genuinely interested in it, it's even easier.
I think that it should be part of the school's duty to encourage interest in learning. Many people blame the students, but the thing is, they are just kids. They don't know what they want or what information will benefit them. The problem, I think, is that kids aren't interested in learning what they are teaching. And for good reason. I go to school for 4 hours every day and just get talked at, not to. Just as it is easier to learn if you are interested, it becomes nearly impossible if you are disinterested.
