Ernesto "Che" Guevara was born in Rosario, Argentina. He studied medicine at the University of Buenos Aires. He met Fidel Castro in Mexico City, and agreed to join him in his plans to overthrow Fulgencio Batista in Cuba. He became a comandante while fighting in the guerrilla war. Once Batista had been overthrown, Che became head of the national bank. From there Che went to the Congo, and then to Bolivia, where he was captured and executed on October 9th, 1967. And, of course, Che was a communist. There are many articles on the web about Che, and there speeches of his here on this site. In all, Che was a revolutionary dedicated to liberating the poor and exploited peoples of the world. This is only a brief description of him though. Many books are available about Guevara, I suggest you buy a few. Welcome to the group.

you should also know that he wasnt interested in politics until he made a motorcycle trip with his friend alberto granado on Poderrosa ll through latin america. there he get his first contact with communists. after his trip (about one year later) he came back and finished his study of medicine. there will be a film of his motorcyle trip in cinema soon...im quite excited of it!
some privat details about che:
he was a very bad dancer...he was just able to dance the mambo
he loved the women and they loved him - so he was a quite bad husband
he wasnt part of the defention in the pigbay (exilcubans and americans against the revolutionary cubans) because he hurt himself by his own gun...........
che was quite often very moody and in range,when something didnt goes the way he wants
he suffered on asthma
and so on......

The Motorcycle Diaries is already out. I saw it almost two weeks ago and it was incredible. I've been recommending it to all of my friends, most of whom know nothing of Che. Hopefully they'll check it out.
